The adidas Tubular Doom is about to get its boldest look yet with the impending drop of this all-pink edition. Buy, Pass, Wait: Air Jordan 5 Low Fire Red, Solebox x adidas Ultra Boost, J. Crew x New Balance 997 Butterscotch

Welcome back to another installment of Buy, Pass, Wait, the only place you’ll find the KicksOnFire staff giving their thoughts on the most noteworthy sneaker releases of the week. Sure, you can find out what’s dropping on our handy KicksOnFire app (download it if you haven’t), but we appreciate you taking the time to read up on the kicks that we report on so you know how we really feel. Call it therapy when we have to write about retros over the eleventeenth time that we can say what’s on our minds.

Air Jordan 5 Low Fire Red

Nike
Nike

Juan Martinez, Editor-In-Chief: (PASS) So I have this habit of typing “Fire Red” as “Fired” first before correcting myself. Maybe it’s a Freudian slip about how I really feel about the Fire Red Jordan retros. I just wish they would all go away. Yes, including the Fire Red 3s and I love the 3s!

Juan Carrillo, News: (PASS) Not a fan of the Air Jordan 5 Low colorways that have been dropping. This one I can tolerate but since I’ve been much more selective this year when it comes to what Jordans I pick up, this will also be a pass. The Laney 5 is my favorite colorway on the mid-top, I think that would be the only colorway I would pick up on the low-top if Jordan Brand ever decides to release that color.

Andres Carrillo, News: (PASS) Jordan Brand should have never created a low-top version of the Air Jordan 5. It doesn’t matter what colorway is placed on the shoe I just think that it looks like someone did a bad job of customizing a mid-top pair.

Renz Ofiaza, News: (WAIT) The original form should release instead. I’m not a fan of the silhouette in a low-cut profile, but this colorway is pretty desirable though.

Solebox x adidas Ultra Boost

Solebox
Solebox

EIC Juan: (BUY) The whole caged vs. uncaged debate for Ultra Boosts has become a little silly at this point. What matters is that stuff like the Solebox collab looks fantastic on its own merit. We shouldn’t be worrying what it would have looked like with a cage. Dammit, now I’m thinking what it would have looked like with a cage. I think I did this to myself.

News Juan: (PASS) I actually like the caging system on the original Ultra Boost. That’s one of the features that helps make the shoe stand out. Removing it from the shoe makes it less appealing in my eyes.

Andres: (BUY) Cage or no cage this is one of the best Ultra Boost colorways so far. I think the removal of the cage gives it a sleeker look which is definitely a good thing. Also great job by Solebox to add the red detailing on the outsole and aglets.

Renz: (BUY) I’m for clean and minimal silhouettes so I’m just biased overall. The build is solid and the colorway is pretty versatile as well. One of the best iterations of the Uncaged model this year.

adidas Crazylight Boost 2.5 James Harden Cargo PE

adidas
adidas

EIC Juan: (PASS) It looks like something someone would wear with camo pants. I don’t do camo pants. Sorry, Beard.

News Juan: (PASS) Not really feeling the suede construction on the shoe. Hard to see it for what it is, a basketball shoe. A little bit of contrasting hits would probably help a bit, but then again…

Andres: (PASS) The adidas Crazylight Boost 2.5 is a basketball sneaker and adidas is trying to make it a lifestyle release with this James Harden PE. Not a good idea. Let’s leave the lifestyle look to Kanye and sneakers from the adidas Originals line.

Renz: (WAIT) I like the clean profile of the model and the material makeup looks nice. I’ve never paid attention to this sneaker. But in this colorway, it looks great.

J. Crew x New Balance 997 Butterscotch

EIC Juan: (WAIT) These will probably sell out if I wait more than a few hours because nothing says “hot sneakers” more than J. Crew collabs and the hype video above was well-executed in pointing out everything awesome about the shoe. I just don’t know if I can do a brown shoe that isn’t for formal wear.

News Juan: (BUY) I love the shoe. It’s been a minute since I’ve bought a pair of New Balance sneakers, and this one has just the look I was looking for. Very versatile and luxe looking. The colorway is amazing. I’m not going to lie, the price may be steep ($210), but if you stay buying Jordans for $190, you should have no problem dishing out $20 more for quality sneakers, right?

Andres: (WAIT) The colorways and materials used on this J. Crew x New Balance 997 are BUTTER! The beautiful tones of brown used on the shoe along with the premium suede, leather and nubuck give such an elegant look to this 997. The only reason I say “wait” is because I wouldn’t be willing to pay that $210 retail price.

Renz: (BUY) I’m always down for J. Crew x New Balance collaborations and they didn’t disappoint again. I’m just biased. The colorway and build is solid as always.

Nike Kobe 11 4KB

Nike
Nike

EIC Juan: (PASS) Hey Nike, a triple white Nike Kobe 11 would blow up the Sneaker Internet, just saying. As for the 4KB, it just looks like What The Kobe 9 in low-cut and I don’t mean that as a compliment, especially since they’re priced very similarly.

News Juan: (PASS) The white Flyknit upper is what keeps me ways from getting a pair. Too much maintenance is needed to keep the shoe in good looking condition. Great looking shoe though, just can’t wear it.

Andres: (PASS) This Kobe 11 looks A LOT like the “What The” colorway of the Kobe 9 that sat on shelves for a while and many people even converted into a low-top with some custom work. There should have been more multicolor detailing on this pair. Also, what’s up with that $220 price tag?

Renz: (BUY) In general, I’m a fan of white flyknit sneakers. The multicolor detail has been well placed and I like how it doesn’t overpower the overall appearance.

Should Jordan Brand Continue Making Low-Cut Retros Even Though No One Seems To Care?

Nike
Nike

EIC Juan: The only low-top Jordans I acknowledge are the 11s and the XX9. And as much as I love them (I’m scooping all of the XX9 Lows as soon as the price drops), I can sacrifice them if Jordan Brand will stop with the low-tops until they actually start designing new Jordans with both mid and lows in mind. Earlier Js in low-cut just look like someone just got a hatchet and tried to lob the top of as much as possible. That being said, I understand the business reasons for them (they can re-release OG colorways without having to bring back the actual classics too soon) so they’re not going to stop, but maybe a little more discretion would be nice.

News Juan: I think they should be more selective as to what low-cut retros they decide to make. For example, the Air Jordan 11 looks pretty good in low-top form. The Air Jordan 9 looks okay as well. The Laney 14 Lows were cool too. I guess it all depends on the shoe you’re making a low-cut out of. Being that I love the Air Jordan 3, I’m curious to see what a low-top version of the shoe would look like. Be careful what you wish for, right?

Andres: Jordan Brand needs to STOP with all these low-tops. The Air Jordan 2, Air Jordan 5 and Air Jordan 9 will all be releasing in low-top versions this year and I’m sure no one would argue against scrapping every single pair that releases and replacing them with the original mid/high. I get you’re trying to switch things up a bit Jordan Brand, but this just isn’t a good look.

Renz: The only low-top I’m pretty inclined to are the 11s. With JB continuing to expand its market or reach to other audiences, it only seems logical that the brand produces low-top variations of retros. Personally, I don’t like it much, especially if they’re OG colorways, but I guess with the company, it’s all about the Benjamins.

adidas NMD Chukka Red Suede

On March 17th, adidas Originals will unleash the adidas NMD Chukka to the world – a lifestyle-driven silhouette featuring full-length Boost cushioning and a desert boot-like upper design. In addition to the black suede pair that was unveiled a few days ago, a red suede version, seen here for the first time, will join that colorway as part of the official retail debut. There’s a chance that more colorways could be in the works, but for now, keep an eye out for this catchy tonal-red version on March 17th.

Heres Another Camo Colorway Of The adidas NMD

adidas NMD 1 adidas NMD 2 adidas NMD 3 adidas NMD 4 adidas NMD 5

Yesterday we gave you release dates for the upcoming Olive Camo and Red Camo colorways of the adidas NMD. Now today we can add another camo version of the new adidas runner to the collection.

This new colorway of the adidas NMD comes with a camo graphic upper like we’ve seen on previous pairs but this time combines grey with black along with white detailing on the laces, eyestay, and BOOST midsole. Off-white/cream accents have then been placed on the heel, heel tab, rubber outsole and the EVA inserts on the midsole.

Expect this new camo colorway of the adidas NMD to arrive at adidas Originals retailers very soon for a retail price of $170.

Author’s take

I like how adidas is giving the NMD printed/graphic uppers right off the bat and not only releasing tonal colorways. I think the combination of white/grey and black on this pair is decent but I wouldn’t pick up a pair for myself.

The Ladies Can Shine Bright With The adidas Originals Stan Smith Fairway Green Metallic

adidas Stan Smith Fairway Green 1 adidas Stan Smith Fairway Green 2

The adidas Originals Stan Smith in the white and Fairway Green colorway is considered the OG colorway of the classic Three Stripes model. adidas once brings back the iconic color scheme on the Stan Smith, sort of. Let’s take a look at the adidas Originals Stan Smith Fairway Green Metallic.

The Stan Smith comes constructed out of a white leather upper with the perforations on the side panels acting as the Three Stripes branding The Fairway Green colorway that’s usually found on the heel and tongue of the shoe is still there, it just comes in a metallic offering resulting in a much bolder and shiny look. Everything else remains true to form as the laces, lining, and sole unit still come in white. Said to b dropping internationally really, expect these to arrive stateside in the near future.

Author’s Take

It’s a different look, which I appreciate, but I’d much rather go with the OG look. It’s a pass on my end.

adidas Brings Back The Top Ten Hi With Snakeskin

Just a few years ago, the adidas Top Ten was at the focal point of adidas Originals’ autumn release slate. The classic basketball model was the perfect addition to the lifestyle lineup and even saw a few collaborative efforts with marquee names like G.O.O.D. Music’s 2 Chainz and Big Sean. Now the silhouette returns in a familiar look, as black snakeskin flanks the black leather upper for Spring 2016. The high-arching ankle collar returns in a contrasting white to keep a traditional color blocking intact. Check out more of this women’s exclusive after the break and know that you can pick up a pair today from spots like KITH.

The Womens adidas NMD Burgundy Is Looking Really Impressive

adidas NMD Burgundy 1 adidas NMD Burgundy 2 adidas NMD Burgundy 3

The adidas NMD Burgundy is another NMD model scheduled to release this month. Although this is considered a women’s colorway I’m positive that there will be plenty of guys out there looking to come up on a pair. Let’s take a closer look at the shoe.

This version of the adidas NMD doesn’t come in a mesh, knit or Primeknit upper. Instead it opts to comes in a suede construction that completely changes the aesthetics of the shoe. Burgundy graces most of the upper, which includes the suede base, laces, eyelets, lining, heel counter, and the branding on the heel and side panels. The heel pull tab comes in black to break up the tonal look of the upper. Lastly, the immaculate Boost technology is placed on the white midsole to complete the look of the shoe. Releasing March 17th for $130, is this a must-cop regardless of your gender?

Author’s Take

I don’t care one bit if this is a women’s colorway. I love the shoe and I’ll be trying to get a pair on March 17th. The suede and colorway combination looks amazing on the NMD.

The adidas NMD Knit Circa Is Fast Approaching

adidas NMD Circa Knit 1 adidas NMD Circa Knit 2 adidas NMD Circa Knit 3 adidas NMD Circa Knit 4 adidas NMD Circa Knit 5

The month of March will bring us a lot to choose from when it comes to the adidas NMD. One of those releases is the adidas NMD Knit Circa. One thing worth mentioning about the shoe is that although the upper appears to be Primeknit, it’s actually not, which is a good thing if you’re looking to get the Primeknit look without paying the Primeknit price.

Dubbed the Circa colorway, the NMD Knit’s upper comes in a fiery red knitted upper contrasted by the black accents found all over the shoe. The heel region of the shoe opts to get rid of the red, instead choosing to go with a black and grey textile knit construction. The adidas Three Stripes branding comes in black, as does the lining, heel tab, eyelets and tongue tag. An all-white Boost midsole balance things up a bit and gives the shoe a cleaner look. Said to be releasing March 17th for $130. Let us know what you think of this bold colorway on the adidas NMD Knit.

Author’s Take

This is a great alternative to the adidas NMD models made out of Primeknit uppers. The textile knit looks very similar but you end up paying substantially less. Now I just have to know if it feels similar to Primeknit.

Theres A Multi-Color Version Of The adidas D Lillard 2

Multi-Color isn’t just a look reserved for Nike’s Flyknit releases. We’ve seen the celebratory Chinese New Years Ultra Boosts don the look, and now adidas Hoops will implement the aesthetic to the only MVP candidate on their roster: Damian Lillard’s adidas D Lillard 2. Dame Dolla is balling right now, helping the Trailblazers not just exceed expectations after losing four of their five starters from last season to free agency, but also helping his squad make the playoffs. The latest D Lillard 2 Boost skips over the NBA for a theme related to the upcoming March Madness festivities. By implementing Boost in the heel, the updated 2.0 model adds an energetic pep in your step while woven Multi-Color yarn contrasts a chrome heel and beautiful icy outsole. Are you a fan of the look? Check out more detailed shots below and know this pair is available right now at adidas.com for $115 USD.

You ready for March Madness? If not, perhaps the adidas D Lillard 2 March Madness can lend a helping hand. Opting to come with an upper done up in a multicolor offering, this version of the D Lillard 2 is definitely a head-turner.

For the first time ever in D Lillard signature sneakers, adidas covers the shoe’s upper in a multicolor Primeknit construction. The colorful upper is offset by the black nubuck surrounding it. Adding some more color to the shoe are the colorful laces to give it some added pop. Extra features on the shoe include the chrome colored heel counter and the translucent icy outsole placed under the Boost equipped midsole. If you like what you see, you can now pick up your very own pair for the retail price of $115.

Author’s Take

The multicolor upper looks pretty clean on the D Lillard 2. I could to without the chrome heel and colorful laces, but overall I’m really like the colorful motif on the upper. Price is a positive as well.

Is The adidas Yeezy Boost 750 Brown The Best Colorway Yet?

Author’s Takes

Andres Carrillo, News: Out of the three colorways that have released this has to be the best one yet. My favorite feature is the translucent gum sole that gives a very casual look to the shoe.

Adidas Transforms The NMD Into A Chukka Boot And Covers It In Black Suede

adidas NMD Chukka Black Suede 1 adidas NMD Chukka Black Suede 2 adidas NMD Chukka Black Suede 3 adidas NMD Chukka Black Suede 4

You can make the argument that the most talked about sneaker coming out of adidas at the moment is the adidas NMD. We’ll be seeing the City Sock version release in May while two camo colorways hit retailers later this month.

But before all of that we’ll be seeing another hybrid version of the NMD arrive at retailers. Adidas has now transformed the NMD into a chukka boot with this new black suede colorway that will be arriving at select adidas Originals retailers on March March 17th. The adidas NMD Chukka Black Suede comes with a full black suede upper instead of the traditional Primeknit upper that we regularly see on this silhouette along with White contrasting on the BOOST midsole.

It’s no doubt that adidas is going in a different direction by creating a mid-top version of the silhouette with a full suede upper. Do you like what you see or do you prefer the Primeknit versions?

via: adidas

Author’s Take

Because of the chukka look and suede upper this sort of looks like a whole new silhouette. It’ll still be comfortable thanks to the BOOST midsole but I’m not sure it’ll sell out because it’s a bit harder to wear than the low-top pairs.

Adding to the Olive Camo colorway of the adidas NMD that we showed you earlier, we now have a release date to report for the Red Camo colorway as well.

This new colorway of the adidas NMD comes draped in a grey and red/orange/pink camo graphic all over the Primeknit upper that is complemented by white detailing on the eyelets, laces and the BOOST midsole. The EVA inserts on the midsole are done in off-white as well as the heel and heel pull tab. The outsole on this pair of NMDs is all-white to complement the BOOST midsole.

Releasing on March 23rd at select adidas Originals retailers for a retail price of $170, what are your thoughts on this upcoming NMD release?

via: adidas

Author’s Take

If the color on the upper was really red I think it would look a lo better. Instead this shoe looks like a mix of orange and pink which I’m not really liking. These are a pass for me.

The adidas NMD just continues to release in more and more colorways. One of the newest options what will be available later this month is this Olive Camo colorway.

Scheduled to release on March 23rd for a retail price of $170, this adidas NMD Olive Camo comes with a full Primeknit-based upper done in Olive Cargo and Black detailing on the laces, heel, eyelets, rubber outsole and the EVA inserts on the midsole. the BOOST midsole has been left in white to keep things clean.

Do you plan on picking up a pair later this month? Let us know your thoughts on the adidas NMD down in the comments below.

Author’s Take

Another clean colorway of the NMD that I wouldn’t mind adding to my collection. I’m a fan of olive shoes and to create a pair mixing it with black is definitely a good look.
