The Air Jordan 1 High Rare Air Is Making A Return
By SoleInsider
The Air Jordan 1 High Rare Air will be returning later this year in a couple of different colorways. What differentiates this pair of 1s from the traditional Air Jordan 1 High is the fact that the “Wings” logo by the ankle has been removed and replaced with the words “Air Jordan.”
What was once only a sample version of the Air Jordan 1 has made it to retailers last year and will be releasing in at least two new colorways late this year. The first pair will come in a combination of Max Orange, White and Black, while the other one decides to use no color and rocks a white, black and grey combination. Both pairs are finished off with Nike Air branding on the heel, the Air Jordan branding on the ankle, and a Jumpman on the tongue.
Take a look at both pairs above and let us know if you’re looking forward to either release.
Jordan Brand will be giving the “Timberland” boot look to the Air Jordan 4 as we take a look at a brand new colorway of the iconic silhouette today.
Covered in a wheat from head to toe, this Air Jordan 4 utilizes a smooth leather upper with perforations added on the side panels and tongue. Other details include tonal hits on the branding, inner liner and misole, while a gum rubber outsole finishes off the look.
There is no release information available yet for the Air Jordan 4 Wheat, but take a look at these first images of the shoe and keep it locked to Kicks On Fire for updates.
I’m a really big fan of the Air Jordan 4 but my first opinion is that I don’t like this colorway. Maybe when I see more images I may change my mind, but right now I’m not a fan.
USC Trojans Greeted With Air Jordan 12s For Entire Team
By SoleInsider
The perks of being a college football player for a major program like the USC Trojans means that brands like Nike and Jordan will be offering up free gear throughout the season – just as long as a player doesn’t try to sell or profit off of the gifts in any way. You can imagine the Trojans players were excited when they entered the locker room to see free Air Jordan 12s waiting for each and everyone before their trip to take on Alabama opening week. The Jordan 12 Gym Red is as close a match the USC wardrobe as possible with a tumbled red leather upper accented by a white mudguard for an inverted take on the classic Cherry 12s.
The Air Jordan 12 “Gym Red” released this past July and could still be found on store shelves in short supply a few weeks after the release. What do you think of USC’s gift to its players before their big game? Stay tuned for more Jordan updates right here on Sneaker News and if you’re a fan of the Jordan 12 Gym Red you can read more about the pair here.
Jordan Brand’s efforts to release more women’s exclusive colorways have given us plenty of premium retros flaked with gold speckles, shades of pastel pinks, and more that otherwise wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for a growing interest in sneakers from ladies everywhere. Take for instance the upcoming Air Jordan 1 “Heiress” and the Air Jordan 12 “Heiress”, two luxurious offerings that take iconic Jordan retros and transform them into lifestyle must-haves thanks to shades of Light Bone, Plum Fog, and Metallic Gold Star.
While we’ve seen the Air Jordan 1 Heiress in the past, today we get a good look at the Air Jordan 12 Heiress. The model utilizes a simple and elegant Light Bone tumbled leather for the base paired with a matching mudguard while Plum Fog hits the lining and outsole. Metallic Gold Star can be found on the lace eyelets for an added luxurious twist to help the Jordan 12 Heiress stand out.
Multiple shops have this duo pinned down for a September 10th release, so check out a better look at this women’s exclusive Jordan Heiress Collection after the break and stay tuned for more Jordan release dates right here on Sneaker News.
Killing The Hype: Its Time To Make The Air Jordan 1 Bred Always Available
By SoleInsider
The Air Jordan 1 is the easiest Air Jordan of them all to cop.
Wait, scratch that. Lame Air Jordan 1s are the easiest Air Jordans to cop.
Look inside any sneaker store at the mall or specialty boutiques and you will find the Air Jordan 1 in some shape or form. But chances are that shape and/or form is going to be a mid or a low that you probably don’t care for, it?s going to have a strap that ruins the aesthetic of the shoe or it?s going to use materials that are subpar. Sure, you could buy those 1s just for the sake of having something that might resemble the most iconic sneaker ever, but why settle?
The truth is you want the OGs. You want the Chicago, the Royal, the Black Toe and the Breds (but not the Metallic Blue despite being a legit OG but whatever, I guess). If you?re feeling sporty, you hope that Jordan Brand brings back other OG colorways or unique one-offs like the black and gold or the China 1s. Jordan Brand should be flooding stores with those classics, but instead we get, well? stuff (yeah, that?s the non-profane word I was looking for) that we don?t like.
The past 18 months has proven that retros can sit on shelves regardless of their historic value or how they are tied to Michael Jordan if Jordan Brand makes enough stock for people to buy. Legendary colorways like the Air Jordan 8 Aqua, the Air Jordan 6 Maroon and new colorways like the Air Jordan 11 Low Closing Ceremony are not selling out as quickly nor are they going for as much as they would have several years ago on the resale market. Unlike previous years and unless it?s something insanely rare like a PSNY or OVO collab, most people that want to get retros will be able to get most of them without too much hassle.
The fear was that seeing these retros in shelves would hurt the man himself. But really, has Michael Jordan taken a hit in popularity just because we can still find his retros in stores? If MJ still has image consultants, I?d be more concerned about the waning use of Crying MJ memes before I worry about a pair of Black Metallic 5s being available at Foot Locker a week after it dropped.
This weekend Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Bred (or Banned) is coming back this weekend and by all accounts every major retailer is going to be stocking and have plenty of pairs for most people who want to go through the raffle process. That?s great and all, but Jordan Brand should finally take the next step and just make the shoe available perpetually. I don?t just mean the Bred; I want to be able to walk inside a WSS or a Robert Wayne Footwear (props if you know those stores) and buy the Royal, the Chicago or the Black Toe at any time.
But at the same time, I understand Jordan’s motivation for “holding back.” They want maintain that aura of exclusivity for the 1s, especially the Air Jordan 1 Bred. I just think nobody outside of the echo chamber gives a crap about that stuff anymore; people just want their Js. And if Nike is steadfast in not wanting to see one of their most prized products just chilling on a shelf, they can make them “made to order” either online or through their app, a la NIKEiD. Personally, I’d be fine if they introduced a Jordans Within Reach program, but I have money to pay that premium. Most people just want Jordan Within Reach (But Also Affordable).
Allen Kuo
Sacrificing the ?sanctity? of the Air Jordan 1 would be a worthwhile endeavor for Nike. With so many 1s in all sorts of styles, it?s not going to really hurt the brand to have the 1s people actually want to own readily available. A thirtysomething who saw MJ in his prime and maybe even had the 1985 OGs when they just ?sneakers? and doesn?t really pay that much attention to sneaker culture should not have to compete with the sneakerhead who has employs bots or has the time to build relationships with stores. From moms who want to buy kicks for their kids to hypebeasts that, well, hypebeasts wouldn’t be chasing these because they wouldn’t be exclusive anymore, so we all win. Unlocking the Jordans would be seen as an act of goodwill by the brand, something many in the community believe they don?t do enough of already.
Consolation Prizes: 10 Alternatives To The Air Jordan 1 Bred
By SoleInsider
Black, red and white. For three decades now, it has been held up as the gold (even though it has no gold) standard for a Nike sneaker colorway. No matter how the sneaker or how much it shifts from the norm, someone somewhere is always going to try to give a Nike sneaker the ?Bred? look. Sometimes you might see sneakerheads give it a shot at NIKEiD, but other times Nike does the hard work for us and drops all sorts of kicks in the familiar color scheme, right down to the same color blocking. A mixture of black and red with a white midsole; it?s a billion dollar idea that just works and considering how often Nike goes back to it, there seems to be no signs of the style slowing down. Here?s a few examples of the ?Bred? crossing over to other sneakers on the week of the return of the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Bred. Think of these kicks as consolation prizes if you can’t cop the original (although in the case of the first sneaker of this list, it might even be tougher than the Air Jordan 1 Bred).
This is an Air Jordan 12 release that Vince Staples can get behind thanks to a premium ‘blue suede’ upper. The Air Jordan 12 “Deep Royal” is slated to be one of the highlights of Jordan Brand’s upcoming Fall 2016 catalog as it will release on November 12th for $200 USD.
Jordan Brand has always done a great job of reappropriating some of the premium aspects of their more off-limits collaborations for their general release slate later down the road. With the Jordan 12 Deep Royal, that hypnotizing array of monochromatic royal blue first seen on the Don C x Air Jordan 2 returns, but in a slightly altered formula. The Air Jordan 12 proves to be the perfect lifestyle offering here thanks to a lifestyle grade suede, metallic accents throughout, and a matching interior. The real question is which player at the University of Kentucky will lace these up first?
Check out more up close and personal details for this premium Jordan 12 after the break and be sure to head to our Jordan release dates page for more of the latest Jumpman offerings.
The iconic Air Jordan 1 in its classic Bred/Banned colorway which first debuted in 1985, will finally be arriving to retailers this weekend.
Renowned for violating the league?s uniform code when worn on the court, the model is simply defined by black and red covering its premium leather construction. While this pair mimics its 1985 counterpart, this 2016 variation, however, does not feature the distinctive ?X? detail on the heel, which was a prominent element on the 2011 edition. Although, it’s interesting to note that the classic ?Nike Air? branding has been implemented on the tongue.
Topped off with the iconic wings logo across its ankles, a clean white midsole unit and red outsole ? you can find the model at JB and Nike accounts worldwide starting Saturday, September 3 for $160.
GS sizes (3.5y ? 7y) will be offered as well and retail for $120.
While the Air Jordan 1 Low has been introduced in a No Swoosh variation as of late, recently in all white, the model’s classic design has returned in an all-new colorway.
Doused in a versatile and timeless hue of all-black, the sneaker flaunts a premium construction of leather with tonal suede overlays adorning the toe cap, heel, along the collar and lace stays. Additionally, perforations are applied on the toe box to increase ventilation, alongside the iconic wings logo gracing it heels, as it all rests atop a matching full-length rubber sole unit to finish off its profile.
Retailing for $100, you can purchase this pair at select JB and Nike retailers nationwide now.
You can never go wrong with this silhouette, especially in this colorway. The makeup is solid as well. If you’re in the market for an all-black pair, this should have you covered.
Suggested to be part of JB’s standout summer 2017 collection, this forthcoming variation will essentially be a remastered pair, as the model first released back in 2001. The defining light blueish tone is prominent across its patent leather component encompassing the profile, while white leather is utilized for the remainder of its upper and tongue. Finally, a matching white midsole unit and translucent outsole finishes off the clean design.
Rumors suggest that this pair will make its arrival sometime during May 2017, for a retail price tag of $175.
I remember wanting a pair back then to complement the varsity red version. I’m not too inclined on it, but, it’s a really appealing colorway. Die-hard fanatics should be excited though.
The Air Jordan 12 Deep Royal Blue Arrives This Fall 2016
By SoleInsider
A premium rendition of the classic Air Jordan 12 will be offered this Fall 2016, as it’ll be defined by a deep royal blue colorway.
Essentially covering its entire profile, the model also receives a lifestyle upgrade with suede and textured leather comprising its overall makeup. Tonal laces, eyelets and Jumpman-branded panels on the side are evident, while subtle accents of white and grey via branding along its tongue and heel section round out its notable details.
Finished off with a matching full-length rubber sole unit, you can purchase this pair at select Nike and JB stockists nationwide starting November 12th for a retail price tag of $200.

I?m all tonal finishes and I?m a fan of the sneaker in general. The build is solid as well and this should get some attention. I?m not that inclined on purchasing though.

DJ Khaled Wears A Ridiculous Outfit To Match His Craig Sager Jordan 1s
By SoleInsider
DJ Khaled is as colorful a personality in hip-hop and sneakers as anyone. So when the man behind We The Best Music Group showcased the Air Jordan 1 “Craig Sager”, a special edition colorway in honor of the most colorful well-dressed sideline reporter in the history of sports, we thought that it was an obvious pairing.
Today we get a better look at the Craig Sager Jordan 1 via Khaled’s Instagram where he had another surprise for us – a matching, well, mismatched tracksuit that featured a number of prints and patterns to honor Craig’s ambitious wardrobe selections over the years while reporting on the sidelines for TNT. His Air Jordan 1 features houndstooth, Scottish plaid, and stripes galore while the transluscent outsole reads ‘Sager Vision’ in honor of Craig Sager’s ongoing battle with leukemia. Check out DJ Khaled’s matching wardrbobe after the break and stay tuned for more updates right here on Sneaker News.
Color and context matter. Michael Jordan has worn many different colors in his life to represent the different teams he has suited for. There was the white, yellow and blue of Laney high school, the baby blue of North Carolina, the red, white and blue of Team USA and the blue and brown of the Washington Wizards. He’s been great at every stop of his journey, but when people close their eyes and think of MJ, most everybody associates him with the black and red of the Chicago Bulls, especially in those road jerseys where Jordan made a living tormenting fans on their home turf.
Think about Jordan’s greatest moments and chances are they were on an opposing team’s court. “The Shot” against the Cleveland Cavaliers was in Cleveland. His first championship was in Los Angeles. The “Flu Game” was in Utah. Now think about the shoes he wore in those games. They were black and red, or as the sneaker nomenclature would call it now, “Bred”.
On the week of the return of another “Bred” sneaker, the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Bred, let’s take a look back at the best of the black and red with the Top 10 Greatest Air Jordan Bred Sneakers Ever.
Editor’s Note: The criteria for this list are sneakers that were mostly black with red accents, disqualifying kicks with the opposite aethestic like the Air Jordan 9 Motorboat Jones or the Air Jordan 5 Toro. Also not a part of the list is the Air Jordan 3 Black/Cement and the Air Jordan 14 Last Shot because nobody has ever called those shoes “Bred” and we’re not starting now. Why the specifics? Because if we listed every black and red Air Jordan ever made, we might run out of room on the Internet.
Supreme x Air Jordan 5 Bred
Memorable MJ Moment: The Hype
The collaboration was momentous for all the right (and wrong) reasons and not surprisingly, the release was an instant sellout. Too bad the secondary market value hasn’t been the economic windfall those opportunistic resellers had been hoping for, but great for those who were hoping to score a pair but missed out.
Air Jordan XX3 Bred (aka Finale)
Memorable MJ Moment: Supposedly the last proper Air Jordan
The Air Jordan XX3 was supposed to be the last numbered Air Jordan and this was the last colorway to release. Limited to only 529 pairs (23 squared), people would remember this more fondly if Jordan had not gone back to proper numbering with the XX8.
Air Jordan 13 Bred
Memorable MJ Moment: Destroying the Hornets in the Playoffs
Ironically, he now literally owns the Hornets and has been pictured wearing 13s in the purple and teal, but there was a time when MJ just dominated Charlotte as a player. We doubt he lets the fans who were around during his playing days forget about it.
Air Jordan 8 Bred (aka Playoffs)
Memorable MJ Moment: Tormenting Charles Barkley
We didn’t know it then, but Jordan’s first three-peat would be capped off by a masterful performance in the 1993 NBA Finals against rival Charles Barkley and Phoenix Suns. This was peak MJ on display as his feel for the game finally caught up with his athleticism and psychotic competitiveness.
Air Jordan 16 Bred
Memorable Moment: None
Jordan did wear the 16s on the court, but it was the Ginger colorway as he was a full-on Wizard by this time. There is an ad where he’s pictured wearing the “Bred” colorway so that’s a small consolation for the fans. It’s about time the 16 got its fair shake.
Air Jordan 4 Bred (aka Playoffs)
Memorable MJ Moment: The Shot
Does anybody ever ask Craig Ehlo to sign posters of “The Shot” kind of like how Robin Ventura gets asked to sign pictures of him getting beat down by Nolan Ryan? He must really hate these kicks.
Air Jordan 6 Bred (aka Infrared)
Memorable MJ Moment: First Championship
Much of the reverence for the Air Jordan 6 has to do with the fact that MJ won his first championship in those kicks. Maybe things would be different had he won first in another Air Jordan, but let’s not resort to maybes at this point. The 6s are great and the “Bred” version – Infrared or Varsity Red – will be always be a showstopper.
Air Jordan 12 Bred (aka Flu Game)
Memorable MJ Moment: The Flu Game
Regardless of how sick Michael Jordan really was during that infamous game, the sneakers were going remembered for being the baddest things on the planet. The Air Jordan 12 always had a sense of grit to it that was unlike any other Jordan that came before it and much like everything else in MJ’s career, he wore the right shoe at the right time at the right place.
Air Jordan 11 Bred (aka Playoffs)
Memorable MJ Moment: Father’s Day
Jordan winning his fourth championship on Father’s Day, the first since his dad was senselessly murdered in 1993 humanized him to a lot of people. Up until then, nobody was as cool, calm and collected as Michael Jordan, but when the buzzer sounded his emotions got the best of him. That image of him laying down on the floor in tears as he remembered his dad is one that any father or child can relate to.
