Buy, Pass, Wait: Air Jordan 12 Chinese New Year, adidas Harden Vol. 1 Disruptor
By SoleInsider
So many kicks high-profile kicks dropped this during the regular week that it felt like the weekend was going to left high and dry from the sudden move up of the Nike Air Foamposite One Anniversary edition to last week. the return of the Nike Air Zoom Generation on Wednesday, the debut of the adidas EQT Support 93/17 yesterday and the move of the Nike LeBron 14 Black Ice to a later date. But we’ve still got a handful of releases that you might be interested in that’s dropping on Saturday on we’re celebrating Chinese New Year the same way we always do, Pinky, by trying to take over the world with a brand new edition of Buy, Pass, Wait.
Juan Martinez, Editor-In-Chief: (WAIT) The following pictures are from January 7, the first time I saw the Air Jordan 12 CNY in person. I couldn’t do a full reveal video at the time (although I did post on them on the KoF IG Story), but the takeaway was that it was a decent attempt at a special release but should absolutely not be worth $250. If it was a wholly original colorway (the similarity to the Taxi is hard to understate), it might be fine but I’ll be waiting to see the reaction to this especially since it apparently isn’t going to be a super rare drop.
Juan Carrillo, News: (PASS) It’s basically a “glamorized” version of the Air Jordan 12 Taxi. The added detailing such as the 3M upper isn’t good enough for me to pay $250. To be quite honest, I’d rather just get the Taxi 12s.
Renz Ofiaza, News: (BUY) Even though it’s similar to the Taxi 12s, I really like the woodgrain detailing applied throughout. It’s a nice complementing touch and the added character is just appealing in general.
Andres Carrillo, News: (PASS) Slick move by Jordan Brand of trying to give us the “Taxi” colorway with a few changes. I’ll pass and wait on the real Taxis instead. Plus, couldn’t they have used something other than the Jordan 12? We saw way too many colorways last year already.
EIC Juan: (PASS) Looks like 2017 is really becoming the year of the urban/cargo/military green. There’s an Air Jordan retro where I can see myself rocking this type of colorway, but it’s not the Air Jordan 8. I think this will do better than most people think, but I won’t be contributing to its success.
News Juan: (PASS) It’s a really dope colorway. It’s such a shame it’s done on the Jordan 8, one of my least favorite retro models of all-time. With that being said, this is is definitely the “best” looking 8 I’ve ever seen, just not down with the model.
Renz: (BUY) This is a trending/seasonal colorway, so it should garner a lot of attention easily. I’m pretty biased towards this offering. One of the best new iterations of the model recently.
Andres: (PASS) Even though I’m not a fan of the Air Jordan 8, I’ll admit that these look decent. I am a big fan of olive sneakers and these are pretty fresh. I’ll just admire from afar though, cause like I said I don’t mess with the Jordan 8 like that.
EIC Juan: (PASS) As a fan of the cause, I want Nike and Kevin Durant to continue to honor the memory of his Aunt Pearl for as long as their partnership lasts. The black upper is a stark contrast to previous Aunt Pearl releases however and it’s kind of a shock and not in a good way.
News Juan: (PASS) Solid colorway, but not for me. It’s funny because I’m a fan of the KD 9, I’ve just never came across a colorway that really blew me away. The Aunt Perl color scheme used to be a must-have, now, not so much.
Renz: (BUY) One of the better iterations of the silhouette in terms of its colorway. It also holds a strong message and benefits a good cause.
Andres: (PASS) I admire and respect Kevin Durant for creating a sneaker that pays homage and is inspired by his late aunt, but I’ve never been a fan of the colors used on any of the Aunt Pearl KDs. This pair doesn’t really help. An all-black shoe with subtle pink accents is still too plain for my liking.
adidas Harden Vol. 1 Disruptor
adidas
EIC Juan: (MUST BUY) Ah f**k, a white, black, and gold shoe. I would also totally accept a flip-flop of the color blocking and if adidas is planning on doing something like that down the line, I will be trying to cop that as well.
News Juan: (WAIT) The Black/White split look on the upper is very clean. I’d be down to own a pair of Hardens, but I’d like to try them on first. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the model though, so I’m pretty sure I’ll eventually end up owning a pair sometime this year.
Renz: (WAIT) I actually like this model in particular colorways and this version is a nice option. I’m a fan of the sneaker’s sleek/simplistic design and I’ll consider for a lower price point.
Andres: (PASS) Reminds me of the BHM/Arthur Ashe colorway that released earlier this week. I like those better so that’s why I would pass on these. Still a solid colorway though. I like the subtle gold accents.
