It’s always a pleasure when we get Boost in the office, even if it’s not the Boost that everybody expects. That was definitely the case when adidas Soccer dropped off a pair of the adidas Ace Tango 17.1 Trainer that’s part of the Turbocharge Collection. It’s not an Ultra Boost that everybody just needs to have or a Pure Boost that is simply pillows on your feet, but the Ace Tango has some of the DNA that have those kicks without being confused as a knockoff.
The TR is the key part of the shoe’s function as it is a trainer that’s made of post-pitch. The Boost midsole gives the shoe a comfy ride as you might expect from anything with Boost. The upper is a combination of Primeknit and mesh with a layered skin that gives the Ace Tango a snug, compression-like fit (*update* the material is actually called PrimeMesh according to adidas). Great if your feet are narrow, not so much if they’re a little on the wide side. Reflective pops on the three stripes paired along with the electric green hits might turn off those who love their Boost sneakers to be as monotone as possible, but it gives them a look that you just don’t see in Ultra or Pure Boosts.
