400,000 Pairs Of The adidas NMD Were Sold On Launch Day!

March 17th will forever be known as the day that the adidas NMD went public public. On that day, adidas released an endless amount of colorways and versions of the hottest sneaker on the street, the adidas NMD. Although there were NMD releases before this day, this was the first time that a lot of pairs were made available all over the world. While many people were able to get a pair, there were also many who struck out (such as myself). Does that mean that adidas only had a limited stock? Nope. As a matter of fact, it is being reported that adidas was able to sell more than 400,000 pairs on launch day!

CEO of adidas-Group, Herbert Hainer provided this information while going over the adidas’ recent success during its first quarter of 2016 earnings report. Hainer also went on to say:

“On the one hand, it is of course the unique look and feel as NMD is technically a running shoe realized as a lifestyle sneaker. Its midsole is elevated with adidas Boost technology, while the upper utilizes the integrity of adidas Primeknit. This offers highest comfort, combined with cutting-edge design. On the other hand, the success of NMD also goes back to a number of special activations, including launch events and campaigns that took place in key cities around the world.”

Did you hop on the adidas NMD hyper train? Do you see it dying out any time soon? Are you a fan of the model? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Below you will find the white Boost midsole to add contrast and most importantly, comfort. A black outsole rounds out the look of the shoe. No word on when these will drop stateside, but they can now be found at select retailers in Europe such as SneakerStore. Hot or not? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Adidas Continues To Grow In The U.S.

It’s no question that Kanye West has been very influential on the growth of adidas in the United States, since his abrupt departure from Nike back in 2013.

Sales of his footwear in particular have been heavily-sought after and his presence with the brand has clearly persuaded the public to deem it “cool” (especially those who are fashionably-inclined) to consider the German sportswear company much more, aside from their arch rivals.

Since a 20% decline in 2014 in North America, the brand has recorded an impressive first-quarter this year, with net sales rising 22% on a currency-neutral basis, which was even better in 2015 with a 7% growth. Footwear sales soared 54%, helped by increases for running and the smaller baseball and football categories.

Mark King, president of Adidas Group North America, tells Fortune; that running shoes grew by 30% and the Ultra Boost line was simply the best seller. Retail data from The NPD Group also revealed that the Three Stripes is gaining popularity faster in running, compared to Nike and Under Armour, although, Nike still commands nearly 60% of the market share, while adidas is at 5% and Under Armour just 3%.

Additionally, the rise of activewear for both sports and day-to-day activities has given other sportswear brands a boost, since the attire is currently trending, and should continue to grow as this forthcoming Summer 2016 Olympics serves as a global platform for more marketing opportunities.

Furthermore, with the aid of partnerships of other influential artists such as Pharrell Williams and others, as well as big notable athlete endorsement deals, it creates a halo effect for the consumers, which essentially explains the bias shown by customers towards certain products because of a favorable experience with other products made by the same company.

Mark King states;

?Americans like winners, we needed to not just have athletes but the best athletes.?

Is This Actually The adidas Yeezy Boost 550

It looks like the image you see above is an actuall pair of the upcoming adidas Yeezy Boost 550. We’ve heard an endless amount of rumors and seen a handful of images regarding what the shoe will actually look like, but it looks like this is the one.

If you take a close look at the picture you will see that the shoe has a higher ankle cut compared to the Yeezy Boost 350, sort of making it a semi-low top sneaker. The upper still comes in Primeknit construction, the only difference is the new patterns placed on the shoe. Another notable and new feature comes by way of the outsole shape as it now comes with a more sleek motif and a translucent appearance. For whatever it’s worth, the tags also read Yeezy Boost 550. No word yet on when these will drop, but keep it locked as more information begins to arise. Also, be sure to visit our adidas Yeezy Boost 550 hub page for all the latest info and images regarding this potential release.

Author’s Take

Don’t really see much of a difference between this pair and the 350. In my opinion, it’s kind of redundant. With that being said, you damn well these are still going to sell out.

Sneaker Grails: The Light Side And Dark Side Star Wars adidas Superstar

May the Fourth be with you, celebrate this totally fabricated (but kind of awesome because Star Wars) holiday you will. As every blog tries to shoehorn in Star Wars-related content on their site in a totally blatant attempt to garner clicks, we here at KicksOnFire would like to present our own totally blatant attempt to garner clicks on Star Wars Day with a special edition of Sneaker Grails. It’s like we’re Han Solo trying shove Luke Skywalker into a frozen Tauntaun over here. The guts are kinda gross and smelly but the kicks are dope…

Ask any Star Wars fan what the best film in the seven that have dropped so far was and they will undoubtedly say The Empire Strikes Back (if they say otherwise they are just wrong and possibly terrible people… kidding… maybe…). The sequel to A New Hope turned the characters that we all fell in love with into actual human beings that you could relate to, whether it was the Leia and Han dynamic or Darth Vader having conflicted feelings towards a foe he would normally just force choke the s**t out of (being that foe is his son will do that to a father, I guess) or Luke trying to find his way in the world. Chuck Klosterman cites Empire’s multi-generational influence and who we view as the hero, the anti-hero and the villain depends on how old we were when we saw the film. For example, while a kid might think Luke “lost” to Vader in Empire, a teenager might think he did the noble thing in not selling out; meanwhile, an adult might look at that situation and realize that maybe what Vader is pitching – galactic domination and a pretty dope life as the heir to the throne – isn’t so bad.

What I remember most from Empire when I first saw it on Laserdisc (yeah…) and the subsequent hundreds of times I watched it afterwards was the feeling that Luke was kind of a whiny brat who had the best teacher in the world and totally deserved getting the smackdown laid into him by Vader. I was maybe seven or eight years old. Yoda for the win basically.

adidas Consotrium Superstar "Vader" and "Yoda" (eukicks) adidas Consotrium Superstar "Yoda" (eukicks) adidas Consotrium Superstar "Yoda" (eukicks) adidas Consotrium Superstar "Yoda" (eukicks) adidas Consotrium Superstar "Yoda" (eukicks) adidas Consotrium Superstar "Yoda" (eukicks) adidas Consotrium Superstar "Vader" (eukicks) adidas Consotrium Superstar "Vader" (eukicks) adidas Consotrium Superstar "Vader" (eukicks) adidas Consotrium Superstar "Vader" (eukicks) adidas Consotrium Superstar "Vader" (eukicks)

In 2007, adidas did not have the Star Wars license yet, but that did not stop them from releasing a “Light Side” and “Dark Side” Consortium pack that paid homage to the movies. Housed in packaging that is very reminiscent of the old school Kenner action figures, the “Vader” and “Yoda” colorways each featured distinct nods to the iconic characters. The “Vader” was done in a shiny all-black leather upper style with gold hits throughout the shoe and a red sole while the “Yoda” had a light brown hemp upper that referenced his homely attire and light green embellishments on the lace tip and sole. Maybe the Lucasfilm people wouldn’t have paid too much attention to the pack if a few things were done differently, but what really put it over the top was the use of the iconic Star Wars font on the packaging and the shoes. It’s possible that this is what led the three stripes to pony up the money to use Star Wars in an official capacity and considering it’s a partnership that remains to this day, it’s money well-spent.

As is the case with any Consortium release, this not-so-subtle tribute was not produced in mass quantities. Various sources online range the actual number of pairs out there between as many as two thousand to as little as 800 for each character. They sold out quickly and are now in the hands of sneakerheads and Star Wars collectors. So if you see somebody rock a pair this Star Wars Day, give them the nod of approval, you must.
