Buy, Pass, Wait: Air Jordan 13 Black Cat, Reebok Shaq Attaq, adidas Pure Boost
By SoleInsider
It’s a different world in this week’s edition of Buy, Pass, Wait as we enter a new era… an era where Dwyane Wade is freaking 35 years old. For anybody that grew up watching him play as a precocious rookie that few really knew about to becoming an NBA Champion by year 3 and an Olympic Gold Medalist a few years down the line, how old does that make you feel? What? Did you think I was going to talk about something else, possibly more sinister and orange?
Anyways, we now live in an era where D-Wade is getting close to middle age, Shaq is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his first signature shoe, the Air Jordan 13 Black Cat is coming back (again) and adidas is the hottest thing in the planet right now. It’s different times, indeed. And the Kicks On Fire staff is here to help you sort through this weekend’s biggest drops and share we think about them because if we’re going to write about these kicks all week long, you might as well know how we really really feel.
Note: Everybody turned in their picks this week before the news that the Nike Air Foamposite One XX was actually dropping this weekend instead of next week. Needless to say, that’s big miss on our part, but judging from who we have on staff, I’d say it’s a big pass for most of them because they are not Foams fans. I personally would buy it just to have it for posterity.
Juan Martinez, Editor-In-Chief: (PASS) The Nike+ app thought it would be hilarious to reserve me a pair of these knowing that I loathe the 13s with a fire that burns so hot. Well, the joke’s on them because I just bought the Air Jordan 3 Cyber Monday (or whatever it’s called these days) for $120. Wait, I just gave them money so I don’t think they lost… dammit…
Renz Ofiaza, News: (WAIT) This is a colorway that will always be as versatile or timeless. You really can’t say no. I really like the 3M detailing and the overall theme. I’m not too tempted in purchasing it in this price though.
Juan Carrillo, News: (PASS) I don’t own any 13s. I don’t love them, I don’t hate them. I wouldn’t be against owning a pair of 13, but the all-Black look is just too simple for me. I mean it works on the model, but I’m not down to pick up this particular pair of 13s.
Andres Carrillo, News: (PASS) I’m glad to see the Air Jordan 13 return this year and I’m looking forward to picking up a couple of colorways. This Black Cat pair was well executed, but I’m just not too big a fan of all-black shoes. However, this pair of 13s is much better than that “Black Cat” Air Jordan 6 that released last month. I expect lots of people to go after a pair.
The Harden Vol. 1 is possibly my favorite new signature shoe this season and so far all of the colorways that have dropped so far have ranged from solid to great. The BHM Harden Vol. 1 falls into the “great” category so it would be a must-buy for me.
Renz: adidas Dame 3
The entire BHM line is pretty solid and it’s really well executed, but, I’m just biased towards the new Lillard. It’s a nice tribute overall and that colorway is pretty suitable for everyday wear.
News Juan: adidas Harden Vol. 1
adidas did their thing with the collection, but the Harden pair looks the best in my opinion. The Black and Grey print on the knit upper gives the shoe a fresh new look. I’ve yet to try on a pair of Hardens, but if they’re good as advertised these would be the one’s I’d get.
Andres: adidas Dame 3
The Dame 3 and Harden Vol. 1 are both real clean from this collection, but I’m a bigger fan of the Dame 3. The inspiration for the collection and the color schemes are both real cool. Great job by adidas. Now let’s see what Nike answers with.
EIC Juan: (PASS) The adidas Pure Boost was the first pair of kicks that I tried with Boost and it’s been a lovefest ever since. It has been overshadowed by the Ultra Boost and Yeezys, but don’t let that discourage you from copping a pair because this is another winner. I’m just waiting for a colorway that doesn’t have half the population asking me if these are the new Yeezys.
Renz: (WAIT) I’m all for the simplicity. The new primeknit construction is nice and the minimal heel lift is pretty cool as well. I’m not really into the colorways offered now, but I’ll consider getting a pair in the future.
News Juan: (WAIT) The original Pure Boost eventually ended up selling for half the MSRP. One of the most comfortable Boost models of all time and it got slept on. I don’t really see this version of the Pure Boost getting the same type of hype as the Ultra Boost model, so I’d like to get one but I don’t mind waiting a couple months and scooping up a pair once they go under $100.
Andres: (WAIT) When I initially saw it I wasn’t a fan. But once I saw pictures of them on-feet they looked much better. Would I cop? I’d consider it, but definitely not for $140. Hopefully adidas comes out with some great colorways down the line.
EIC Juan: (WAIT) Looks like the hype of the Shaq Attaq isn’t as strong as when it first came back a few years ago. That’s great for me because it looks I might be able to cop them at a lower price because my 2013 pair is beat up to hell.
Renz: (PASS) I’m a fan of retro bball designs in general, but, I’m not really interested in acquiring this pair.
News Juan: (WAIT) Pretty cool. This is the type of shoe that reminds me of my adolescence. I’ve never owned a pair as a kid (or ever), but it definitely gives me nostalgia seeing it all around school. Not too big on the bulky look of the shoe, but it’s pretty dope to see these making a return for fans of the shoe.
Andres: (PASS) It’s cool to see Reebok celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Shaq Attaq, but it’s just not a shoe that I could see myself wearing. Shaq is one of the greatest of all-time, but I can’t say the same about his shoes.
EIC Juan: (GOT ‘EM) Happy birthday, D-Wade. I love me some black and gold so this would have been an instant cop for me regardless simply because of the color scheme. I’m a sucker, sue me…
Renz: (PASS) I don’t understand why this is $160, it should be cheaper than that. Either way, I’m not really a big fan of this silhouette. The pattern on the upper doesn’t look that great.
News Juan:(PASS) Not too keen on this colorway of the WoW 5. I don’t own any Li-Nings, but I wouldn’t be opposed to getting a pair in the near future. This colorway does nothing for me, but I’m optimistic the model will have better offerings in the near future.
Andres: (PASS) I can’t believe that D Wade turned 35 this week. I remember watching him play as a rookie back in 2003. As for this “Birthday” colorway of the WoW 5, I think it’s clean. Li-Ning did a good job with the new woven upper and the combination of grey, black, and gold is a winner. These are a pass for me though simply because I don’t really rock basketball shoes too much anymore.

adidas Mixes White And Black Primeknit On The EQT ADV
By SoleInsider
There will be plenty of emphasis on the adidas EQT line in 2017, and much of it will stand on the shoulders of the remixed models like the adidas EQT ADV 91-16. This upcoming release makes use of a Primeknit upper option, mixing in a sleek/sporty white/black mix with a hint of bright pink on the heel stripe and the sole. Will the EQT line see the same success as the NMD? adidas certainly has high hopes, because they have eight different adidas EQT models dropping on January 26th. This pair you see here is set to release in the coming weeks as well; a release date will be confirmed soon.
