This weekend’s edition of Buy, Pass, Wait feels like the calm before the storm. Despite Nike bowing out of this year’s All-Star festivities, Jordan Brand will be there next weekend with a bevy of big releases and you can bet adidas Basketball will representing for their superstars as well. So to get us ready for the incoming slate of big February drops, we’ve got a new yet familiar look for the adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2, the surprisingly pricy Air Jordan 5, Jordan Brand’s BHM offerings and much more.
adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Black Red
Juan Martinez, Editor-In-Chief: (BUY) Kanye has been relatively quiet by Kanye standards about Kanye things (especially Trump-related stuff although that seems to have blown over) Something about the contrast between the plain black Primeknit upper and the red Yeezy Supply branding works for me in a way that the Pirate Black did not. I still wish the branding was a little bit better and wasn’t reversed in some sort of attempt to be cool and hip, but I’ve been surprised by how much I like the 350 V2. Not enough to make a few phone calls to hopefully secure every pair, but enough that I might actually like them over the V1. Blasphemy, I know, but Belugas though…
Renz Ofiaza, News: (BUY) Try to at retail. I like this version more than than last year’s black/red combo and the return of the heel tab is a better look for me.
Juan Carrillo, News: (PASS) Too plain. Need some more variety in this model’s colorways. What is that, 4 straight Black colorways on the 350? Nah, man.
Andres Carrillo, News: (PASS) This is probably the worst colorway of the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 yet. An all-black upper with a tiny bit of red, really? The hype over these shoes is so crazy that the need for creativity is probably gone already. adidas and Kanye know that any colorway they put out will sell out instantly so it feels to me like they’re just getting lazy.
Air Jordan 5 Take Flight
EIC Juan: (PASS) I blame Nike for making me like military green sneakers all of a sudden and for $190, this would totally be a must cop. But for $400? Hell naw, dude…
Renz: (BUY) I’m against that price tag, although, the refined premium makeover, plus the overall colorway and materials are just a winner for me. I guess I’m biased, haha.
News Juan: (PASS) To be quite honest, I don’t even think I’d buy a pair if they were $190 opposed to $400. For some reason, I just don’t envision premium when I look at the shoe. It may look different in person, but still, $400 is too much for this Jordan 5. I doubt it sells out and I would not be surprised if they get marked down closer to $250 in a couple on months.
Andres: (PASS) I refuse to pay anything over $190 (the regular retail price) for a pair of Jordan 5s. Why is Jordan Brand charging $400 for these again? For the extra box and dust bag? Nah bruh, I’m good. Easy pass for me.
Nike LeBron 14 Chase Down
EIC Juan: (WAIT) After the colorways I created in NBA 2K17 honestly failed to come up with something super hot, I might grab this clean pair. I think people got their fill of the 14s when the limited Out Of Nowhere colorway dropped so this shouldn’t be that hard to see dropping in price in a few weeks.
Renz: (WAIT) Surely it’s an automatic classic years from now, especially in this timeless colorway. I’m not too tempted in trying to acquire it though.
Pacers Fan Juan:(PASS) Very simple and versatile colorway of the LeBron 14. I consider myself a fan of this LeBron model but just not right now since the gave my Pacers an L this past Wednesday. I’ll just wait for the Nike PG 1 to drop. Ha.
Andres: (PASS) Nike should have given a proper release to the “Out of Nowhere” colorway and people would have gotten more excited. The black upper with the grey/silver accents on this pair make the shoe look too plain. I think the LeBron 14 has potential, but this colorway doesn’t show that.
Jordan Brand BHM Collection

EIC Juan: (Jordan Trunner LX BHM) I have a special place in my heart for Trunner, especially the Trunner Bubble that had a recall, so I’m happy to see the line come back hopefully sans the recall.
Renz: (Air Jordan 1 BHM) Just because it’s a timeless model and the removable patches make it much more dynamic. Although, I’ll also consider the Trunner LX, since my older age palette is kicking in.
News Juan: (Air Jordan 1 BHM) Albeit, I don’t like the velcro branding, it’s still a good look when put together. I’d just be to paranoid wearing them only to find out that one of the velcro Swooshes fell off from the shoe and now I’m left with an all-black Jordan 1, which is something I definitely don’t want.
Andres: (Air Jordan 1 GS BHM) The combination of black and gold is (almost) always a winner and it definitely looks good on the Jordan 1. That men’s pair needs more gold. Overall I think the collection could have been better. There should have been another retro added here.
adidas Superstar Boost

EIC Juan: (WAIT) Look, I thought putting Flyknit on an Air Force 1 was a desperate call for attention until I tried them on and was blown away by how comfortable they were. Lightning can strike twice with Boost on the iconic Superstar silhouette, but I still need to try them on first before biting.
Renz: (WAIT) I’m sure the addition of the new tech makes the sneaker much more comfortable. The colorways coming out now are pretty solid, but, I’m looking forward to more iterations.
News Juan: (WAIT) It’s cool to see this model get the Boost treatment but I’d rather wait for a couple of reasons. 1. I don’t see these selling out instantly. 2. I’d rather wait for adidas to release a version that exposes all of the Boost. 3. I’d rather wait even more and wait until adidas drops a Superstar with both Boost and Primeknit. Once that releases, I’m all in.
Andres: (PASS) adidas Superstar + Boost technology sounds like a match made in heaven. However I don’t think that adidas executed the idea properly. The exposed Boost on the midsole throws everything off for me. It looks like someone took the shoe and cut a piece off the midsole and now you’re left walking around with a busted shoe. Hopefully adidas can fix it and conceal that Boost completely or find a way to make it look better. There’s still hope…I think.
