Jeff Staple Gives Us The Story Behind The Design Of The Nike SB Dunk Low Panda Pigeon

We now know that the Nike SB Dunk Low Panda Pigeon will be releasing on January 15th via Nike SNKRS, Nike has also taken the time to tell us the story behind the design.

Creative ?accidents? often yield the best surprises, and sometimes, they even result in coveted sneakers. Earlier this year, when designer Jeff Staple was moving offices, he went on Instagram and posted an early sample of the ?Black Pigeon? Nike SB Dunks. The shoe had ?test? colors ? black, white, and green ? which he jokingly compared to a ?Panda.? Like wildfire, sneakerheads around the world were begging for the shoe to become a reality.

?I was trying to organize and unpack, but I ended up reminiscing on Instagram, like a history lesson of the culture, because I have so many artifacts,? says Jeff Staple. ?I just wrote a funny caption, that I asked for ?a pigeon not a panda,? and it blew up.? At first, Staple wasn?t convinced that they should do a ?Panda? version. ?We had just dropped a dope shoe in November,? he adds. ?I was happy to wait another decade.?

Staple changed his mind once he remembered going on the global launch tour for the black ?Pigeon? SB Dunk. At the time, he was excited to see the growing sneaker community in China and knew that he wanted to do another tour, in the future, that would start in his motherland?China, and end in his home?New York City. With the panda?s connection to China, and the pigeon?s connection to NYC, everything about a ?Panda? SB Dunk seemed to click.

?That rejected sample was actually 80% there,? says Staple. ?The ?Panda? SB Dunk is the first time that there?s a ?Pigeon? shoe without the pink pigeon on it; it has bamboo green instead. We made a collage of the OG newspaper clippings and put them inside a clear outsole. The exterior Swoosh is white, and the interior Swoosh is the OG pigeon gray.?

Additional details include a green insole with a bamboo graphic, and the interior?s ?SAMPLE” stamp typically found in early versions is altered to read ?STAPLE / NOT FOR RESELL.? All shoes come in the classic pink box. There will also be ?Panda? Staple x Nike SB apparel, with various colors exclusive to certain cities.

?This was really the people’s champ shoe, in my opinion,? says Staple. ?If they didn’t essentially ask for this shoe, it wouldn?t have happened. I love that this came from the voice of the people.?

Release + Price Info: Nike Air Monarch 4 Martine Rose

It looks like the Nike Air Monarch 4 Martine Rose has finally been given a release date and MSRP.

The Martine Rose x Nike Air Monarch collection will consist of two (or three) collaborative iterations of the Monarch, tracksuits and football jerseys.

?When we started, we never just followed the rules, really because our access was blocked. For one reason or another we had to find different ways to show,? Rose said.

The shape itself follows on the same imaginative exercise as the apparel, but with more even experimentation ? beginning with fitting a size 18 upper to size 9 tooling. Bringing this vision to commercial life required inventive development. Thus, Rose?s Air Monarch was built as a series of molds that were topped with stretched synthetic leather. Only one shoe has a similar construction, itself an American standard: the Nike Foamposite.

?We wanted some of the forms to spill over the base and we wanted the heel on the outfit to be further out than the sole?things we were initially told couldn?t be done,? said Rose. ?But everyone kept on pushing and we ended up developing these new shapes and ideas.?

Look for the Martine Rose x Nike Air Monarch 4 to release alongside a collection of oversized sportswear pieces on January 12th at select retailers and Nike.com for the retail price of $250.

A First Look At The C2H4 x Nike Air Force 1 Mid Collab

C2H4 (Los Angeles based label C2H4) gives us a first look at what is believed to be a collab between Nike and themselves. The C2H4 x Nike Air Force 1 Mid was unveiled during their FW19 show at London Fashion Week men?s over the weekend.

Shown above, the C2H4 x Nike Air Force 1 Mid comes dressed in a Black leather upper contrasted by the White piping. Although the shoe is labeled as an Air Force 1 Mid, it definitely comes with features and detailing that we’re not used to seeing on the model. These traits include the Swoosh logo on the toe box, a modified lacing system with a mesh boot-like tongue, reflective detailing and additional branding on areas such as the eyestay, ankle strap and mudguard.

The C2H4 x Nike Air Force 1 Mid is said to be releasing alongside utility vests, track pants, wind jackets, and side bags. No word on when they will drop, but look for them to do so during Spring/Summer 2019.
