Nike Basketball just got a whole lot better, or should we say Greater. Debuting in April, here is all you need to know about the new Nike Basketball Greater Than Series.
Nike Basketball Greater Than Series, also known as the Nike Basketball GT Series, takes essential movement principles from hoops and levels them up through a systems-based approach in three new silhouettes:
Nike Air Zoom G.T. Cut, for cutting and change of direction.
Nike Air Zoom G.T. Run, for energy return and running economy.
Nike Air Zoom G.T. Jump, for vertical jumping and impact protection.
All of which are applied through new combinations of the Zoom Air Strobel.
Designers at Nike Basketball learned from the same findings that guided the ZoomX Vaporfly 4% on the basis that the type of movement being tested matters.
So it makes sense that different sports with different movement patterns need different systems. A runner who?s stretching space on the marathon course ahead of the field is one thing. The challenge is to design a shoe that will provide a propulsive feel in one direction. But in basketball, a rangy forward whose game is predicated on quick footwork in the post, or the guard who has a slower big defending him and needs to last well into the fourth quarter to exploit the matchup, or the point guard who soars in for the rebound out of nowhere to get the critical put-back ? They need some secret sauce with those moves, but they still need a bit of everything. In other words, they need versatile systems that help enable a few movements that are special to their games, not just to their positions, in addition to having a superb all-court everywhere shoe.
?GT is not a specific product, it?s an approach to creating solutions and identifying new perspective on performance. We do it with the athlete and we do it for the athlete,? explained senior creative director for men?s performance sport at Nike, Ross Klein.
Nike Air Zoom GT Cut
The curved Zoom Air Strobel geometry caters to a low-to-the-ground sensation, and is also designed to provide comfort and responsiveness.
Nike Air Zoom GT Run
The unique system includes a full-length Nike React sockliner, double-stacked Zoom Air in the forefoot and a full-length Nike React midsole.
Nike Air Zoom GT Jump
The tooling includes a stacked Zoom Air system, a full-length Zoom Air Strobel, a Pebax jump frame and a JumpWire woven upper.
As of today, the Nike Air Zoom GT Cut ($170) is set to release in Greater China on April 1st followed by a North American drop on April 22nd. The Nike Air Zoom GT Run will release during Summer 2021, with the Nike Air Zoom GT Jump planned for later in 2021.
