A Full Breakdown Of The Nike Latino Heritage Month 2017 Collection

As you may already know by now, Nike will be releasing a special collection to celebrate Latino heritage/Hispanic Heritage Month. The collection reflects the commitment and passion of members of Nike?s Latino & Friends Employee Network and other Nike employees who were inspired to create the collection for Latino Heritage Month ? as celebrated in the U.S. each September.

The collection will include four different silhouettes created in partnership with four Latino artists.

  • Wasafu ? Air Max 1, Nomad (launches 09.15; $150)
  • INTI ? Cortez, One Heart (launches 09.22 – $100)
  • Saner ? Air Force 1, Master Jaguar (launches 10.06 – $150)
  • Pomb ? Air Jordan 1, Roots (launches 10.13 – $160)

Now let’s take a closer look at each artist and the inspiration behind their design.

WASAFU ? Air Max 1

Born Ignacio Espinoza originally from Santiago Chile, Wasafu?s murals can be found throughout the city. His passion for art developed at a young age, as he was often seen with a can of spray paint in his hands. This passion coupled with an architectural degree from Universidad Catolica in 2012, produced what is now known as his signature design.

Nomad

Wasafu?s design focuses on migration, as an integral part of our culture for centuries: we migrate to opportunity and hope. This was the spirit of the Ona, also known as the Selk?nam indigenous people, of the Patagonian region of South America.

INTI – Cortez

Born in Valparaíso, Chile, INTI takes his name from the Incan sun god and the Quechua word for ?the Sun? as homage to his Chilean roots. The origins of his work are inseparable from the cities of Chile, where expressive Latin music, chaotic cityscapes and city-planning makes vibrant street art thrive.

One Heart

Inti created one model composed of patches and symbols of different cultures of the Americas, united in a single design that shows us the dream of the American continent as a single territory.

SANER ? Air Force 1

Born as Edgar Flores, Saner was raised in Mexico City, where he had a chance to discover graffiti art which directed him to earn a degree in graphic design from the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico. His work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide, from Mexico City and New York to Berlin, London and Barcelona.

Master Jaguar

The pre-historic cultures believed particularly in the power of the jaguar, they considered this animal a mystic, with the power of survival in both life and death.

The shoe designed by Saner pays homage to the master jaguar, who invites us to destroy our masks and egos and be reborn into courage. With this design, we return to our roots to become one with the universe yet again. Saner believes when we are one with the universe, we embody the mysticism of the jaguar.

POMB ? Air Jordan 1

From Sao Paulo, Brazil, and born Thales Fernando, Pomb graduated from the University of Brasilia with a degree in Industrial Design. He considers himself not only a graffiti artist but also a self-taught illustrator. At the young age of thirteen, his murals were already making their way throughout Brazil, and as an adult his work has now made its. His work is inspired by the environment, animals, and their vibrant colors.

Roots

The design was inspired by ?roots? a manifestation of who we truly are, our ethos. It represents our history, the richness of our culture, myths and diversity. Everything is intertwined in the roots of our essence: indigenous people, Africans, immigrants. From the beautiful and unique nature, to the concrete jungle metropolis, it all makes us who we are today. Pomb believes it?s under our skin and intrinsic to our souls.

Both Colorways Of The Undefeated x Nike Air Max 97 Release This Weekend At A Pop-Up Shop

Nike and Undefeated have officially unveiled their upcoming Air Max 97 collaboration that celebrates two different anniversaries. Not only is the Air Max 97 celebrating its 20th anniversary, but Undefeated is also celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2017.

?The Air Max 97 is one of those pinnacle sneakers that changed everything when it came out. Nothing had looked like it at the time; the shape, lacing system and metallic silver gave it a more premium feel people hadn’t really seen before. Upon its release it stopped everything, it screamed future,? says UNDFTD co-founder Eddie Cruz.

Showcased in two different colorways, UNDFTD gives the Air Max 97 a luxury twist ? not in material, but in direct ode to Italian fashion. Just as the shoe represents two anniversaries, the conceit works two times over. First, it pays homage to a nation that championed the silhouette from the start, and second it nods to the intersection of high and low that?s been staple of streetwear for generations.

?Celebrating our 15th anniversary on the 20th anniversary of the Air Max 97 felt like a natural opportunity .Why not use a model that is not only respected by our organization but also spoke of the future in its time?? says Cruz. ?The design embodies Undefeated. We offer an elevated aspirational life style. Something for people to aspire to, to be driven towards and when you have it, you want people to know it.?

Both the Black and White colorways of the Undefeated x Nike Air Max 97 will release exclusively at a special UNDFTD pop-up on September 16. A global launch of the black colorway follows on September 21. Retail price for both pairs will be $180. The Undefeated x Nike Air Max 97 Pop-Up takes place from September 16-24 at 112 1/2 La Brea Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90036, Mon-Sat 11-7pm, Sun 12-6pm.
