For Serious Runners, Nike And adidas Arent Top 3 Shoe Brands

Nike, adidas, and Jordan are the three most important brands when it comes to sneaker culture. When it comes the running, they’re almost irrelevant. Over 2.5 million people ran half or full marathons over the last year and among those serious runners, the go-to brands aren’t the Swoosh, Jumpman (which barely has an imprint in running), or three stripes, but Brooks (the leader), ASICS (the runner-up), and Saucony (in third place). Those three brands make up over half the U.S. running shoe market, which brought in $3.2 billion last year.

Of that market share, Nike owns a respectable 9%, which brings them in as the fourth best running shoe brand among serious runners, while adidas isn’t much in the picture. This data isn’t a surprise in the running industry, but for those who rock kicks for fashion, this is a swift reminder that the footwear business is much, much larger than you think.

Seen here in a Black/Bone colorway, the Nike Air Presto Low Utility features a synthetic leather upper, molded midfoot overlays, and neoprene construction on the tongue/ankle. This pair is dressed in Black from head to toe with the exception of the midsole which has been done in White.

This Nike Air Presto Utility Low can be purchased at select Nike retailers now for $130.

Author’s Take

I’m not too convinced with this “Utility” version yet. As of right now I prefer the mesh/neoprene/flyknit pairs instead. I’d have to see these in person.

Another premium colorway of the Nike Air Max 90 is showcased this season with this Black/Gum pair that we see above.

Highlighted by a full black upper constructed out of leather and wool (ideal for the Fall and Winter seasons), this Air Max 90 has then been placed atop a Sail midsole and gum outsole for the perfect contrast.

If premium Air Max 90s are your things then you can pick up this colorway at select Nike Sportswear accounts this Fall.

Author’s Take

There’s nothing too flashy or extravagant about this Air Max 90, but the colorway and materials work well together. The gum outsole is a nice finishing touch.

LeBron James and Kyrie Irving contributed to the most historic comeback in NBA Finals history this past June, coming back from the usual death sentence of being down 3 games to 1 for Cleveland’s first championship in 52 years. The Nike Air Max 96 II XX Releases In Black And White

Fans of the Nike Air Max 96 waited over two decades to be treated to a retro until they found out that the shoe was missing a major original detail – the midsole and outsole unit had been swapped for that found on the Nike Air Max 95 SE for a slimmer more modern upgrade. Traditionalists cried foul while others chose to focus on the head-turning upper and original colorways that were returning to market.

The Nike Air Max 96 famously has two versions and today we get a look at a clean Black/White take on the Nike Air Max 96 II XX. This pair sports a premium leather and nubuck construction consisting up an all black upper while a white slimmed down midsole is contrasted through a murky black visible air unit. The colorway definitely works on the cult-classic running model, but is the inexplicable choice of an updated midsole and outsole unit going to interfere with your decision to grab a pair? Check out more detailed photos of the Nike Air Max 96 II XX “Black/White” after the break and grab your size right now from select shops like 1st OG.

Preview Nike PEs For Draymond, Boogie, AD, And Towns

The NBA season is underway, and there were some absolutely monstrous games last night including a 50 point milestone from Anthony Davis in a losing effort. The Swoosh is churning out some awesome new colorways for the start of their season too with the Nike Basketball “Battle Grey” Collection for their three signature superstars. But what about some of their top PE guys? Luckily they’re getting some exclusives that will be available in international shops this weekend.

Today we get a look at some special mock-ups for Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Draymond Green. The Nike Air Max Audacity returns in a premium construction for The Brow featuring a Battle Grey upper, a unique PE tongue patch, midsole speckling, and accents of Deep Garnett throughout for a simple, refined look. Here’s to hoping AD drops another 50 in a winning effort in these.

DeMarcus Cousins received a new Nike Zoom Clear Out featuring speckling throughout the entirety of the Battle Grey upper while a Kings-centric purple accent shade contrasts with the black Swoosh branding. A new ‘DMC’ PE logo is featured prominently on the tongue while a high-arching ankle collar adds support and modern style to the new basketball silhouette.

Karl-Anthony Towns is one of the most exciting young players in the game and hopes to turn the Timberwolves franchise around. He’ll be doing that throughout the season wearing different variations of the Nike Hyperdunk 2016. Here the basic construction is amplified by midsole speckling, bright accents of royal blue and a new PE tongue logo featuring his jersey number. Draymond Green is one of the most versatile players in the NBA today, so he’ll be getting the ever-versatile Nike Zoom Clear out to complement his all-around hustle. Shocking electric yellow tints brighten up the grey colorway.

Each of these 4 Nike Basketball PEs will be available this Friday, October 28th via Philippine’s shop Titan both in-store and online. Check out more detailed shots below and let us know which pair is your favorite by taking your thoughts to our comments section.

It hardly ever rains where I live, so even though I like the shoe, I have no real need for this Utility version of the Presto.

On the eve of the official unveiling of the Nike Doernbecher Freestyle Collection, Nike has given the sneaker community an inside look at just how a Doernbecher shoe is created from start to finish. A couple of years ago, we spoke with Cole Johanson, who designed the Air Jordan 3 Doernbecher in 2010; he gave us his account of just how the whole design process works, but Nike is going a step further and counting down the exact schedule of events.
