NIKE AIR MAX 90 2 NIKE AIR MAX 90 1 NIKE AIR MAX 90 3

As you may already know, the Nike Air Max 90 continually releases colorways year round so it’s pretty hard to keep up with all of them unless you’re a die-hard fan of the retro runner.

With so many materials and versions of the shoe releasing these days (still waiting on that Flyknit Air Max 90), today we highlight a new colorway of the Ultra Essential version that is part of Nike’s Fall 2016 lineup. This colorway of the Nike Air Max 90 Ultra Essential features a Hyperfuse build on the upper that is done White. Wolf Grey, Dark Grey, Team Red, and Black can then be seen working as accents on the laces, inner liner, mudguard, and other areas of the shoe.

What are your thoughts on this colorway of the Nike Air Max 90 Ultra Essential? Are you considering picking up a pair? Look for these to release this Fall.

Nike Releasing The Vapormax In 2016

Since 1987, Air, one of the key elements of life, has been captured by Nike and transformed into one of the most innovative ideas in footwear history. Over the last thirty years, Nike’s Air technologoy has continuously evolved as more R&D has been devoted to analyzing the sport of running. Soon enough, Nike is ready to unleash its most advanced iteration of Air with the VaporMax, which rids the sole unit of any extra rubber or material. In fact, the VaporMax Air unit is one holistic unit and can independently maintain its unique form with elasticity. The VaporMax, originally slated to be a 2017 release, is confirmed by Wired magazine to release in 2016. Get a detailed look at this new blue colorway below.

The Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 Is The Evolution Of The Nike Mag (And FlyEase)

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 being revealed a few months ago in New York was “well, what does it sound like?” Well, thankfully Cristiano Ronaldo was around to answer that question for me.

Huh, that sounds awfully familiar. Even the light reminds me of something I saw last year. Hey, wait a minute…

Earlier today, Wired released a feature (that I am insanely jealous of) on the story behind the Nike HyperAdapt and how much of it was born out of the Nike Mag. It goes in-depth into just how long Tinker Hatfield, Tiffany Beers, Mark Parker and Nike has been working on a shoe in the Tinker’s words “would essentially come alive when you put it on”. Spoiler: it was a long time, as you might expect from something as potentially game changing as the HyperAdapt.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the HyperAdapt and the Nike Mag have a lot in common. Anybody that is fortunate rich enough to own a pair of both this year will probably see that the machinations of the shoe are one and the same. The difference is that while the Mag will feel antiquated – but still cool in a retro sort of way – the HyperAdapt will look and feel what we thought 2015 and 2016 would look and feel like in 1989 when we saw Back To The Future Part 2 for the first time. The future really is here now.

But another thought also crossed my mind when I saw the HyperAdapt. I thought about somebody very close to me who struggles to tie their shoes. I thought about Matthew Waltzer, the inspiration for the Nike LeBron Soldier 8 FlyEase, our 2015 Sneaker of the Year winner. I thought about the millions of people out there who suffer from life-altering ailments that prevent them from doing the simple things in life that we take for granted like tying shoes. Maybe they don’t need the zipper collar of the FlyEase to put on a pair of shoes but they need assistance in tying them. The HyperAdapt is another tool that has implications that reaches far beyond our needs as athletes or as sneakerheads. It can changes lives. So debuting it on a grand stage like today was very important.

It’s easy to get on Nike’s case for making shoes that some sneakerheads don’t care for. For them, it’s all about kicks that make them look and feel cool and that the whole reason the brand is the market leader is because of cool, not innovation. It’s the so-called echo chamber that doesn’t understand what the deal is and just want to see new shoes that look like old shoes. Well, the HyperAdapt isn’t for them and quite frankly, Nike probably doesn’t care; it’s for the rest of the world to see that the swoosh are doing things that can help people. Yes, Nike is a business first and foremost, but maybe somebody watching at home sees that there is hope for those in their lives that have disabilities or maybe they become inspired to do take the HyperAdapat and make it better. It’s not always about the product itself but the spark that results from seeing that product. That’s the power of the Nike platform that honestly no other brand in the world has and why I wish I could have been part of that Wired crew that got to go inside the Innovation Kitchen.

Everything You Need To Know About The Nike HyperAdapt 1.0

Tech magazine Wired was recently granted access into Nike’s infamous Innovation Kitchen for an exclusive look at the upcoming HyperAdapt 1.0, providing the world with new information and details of the self-lacing sneaker debuted by the brand earlier this year at their Innovation Summit in New York City. With a behind-the scenes look at the making of the HyperAdapt 1.0, lead creators of the shoe Tinker Hatfield and Tiffany Beers revealed exactly how the shoe works.

Twenty-eight years in the making after the fictional power-lacing Nike Mag was featured in Back to the Future Part 2, a fully functioning self-lacing sneaker is finally becoming a reality with the  HyperAdapt 1.0. The shoe utilizes what Nike is calling adaptive fit technology, which features four main components: a heel sensor to alert the shoe when a foot enters it, a cable lacing system, a high-tech mini-motor that tightens and loosens the cables, and a rechargeable battery to provide power to the motor and L.E.D. lights within the incredible feat of footwear engineering.

To see the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 in action with more insight from Tinker and Tiffany, watch Wired’s video below, and expect the first-ever power-lacing sneaker to arrive at retail this holiday season. Stay tuned to Sneaker News for an exact release date and pricing information.

Kyrie Irving‘s had quite the 2016.
