Johnny Manziel Has Been Dropped From Nike

After being released by the Cleveland Browns back in March, things are not getting any better for young quarterback Johnny Manziel.

It is being reported by ESPN that the 23-year-old free-agent quarterback has lost his big marketing deal with Nike. Nike spokesman Brian Strong told ESPN that Manziel, who was signed by the shoe and apparel giant in March 2014 to a multiyear deal, is no longer an endorser of the brand. It’s being reported that the deal was terminated some time after the 2015 NFL season came to an end.

This is the sixth contract Nike has terminated in the past three-and-a-half years. Those whose deals were ended prematurely include Lance Armstrong, Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, Oscar Pistorius and Manny Pacquiao.

Phil Knight And Bill Bowerman Started Nike In This Portland Hotel

Next week, Nike co-founder Phil Knight will be releasing his new memoir Shoe Dog, a non-fiction look at the company?s earliest years. Matthew Kish of the Portland Business Journal unearthed some interesting history on his own recently by collecting a detailed number of Knight?s public statements to piece together a timeline of Phil Knight?s illustrious career.

Nike?s founding was one of the more interesting events detailed in public records which showcases the relationship between Phil Knight and University of Oregon?s legendary track coach Bill Bowerman, who he ran under during his time at the school and considered a mentor. Knight kept in touch with the coach and when starting his own shoe company, then known as Blue Ribbon Sports with the help of Japan?s Onitsuka Tiger Company. With a $26.56 order of sample shoes imported to the United States, he sent Bowerman a couple pairs to see what his former coach thought of them.

“I’ll pass along some of my ideas to you. But, of course, I’ll expect you to make some kind of arrangement with cutting your old coach in, too,” Bill Bowerman responded to Knight in a 1964 letter.

The two would meet at Portland?s Cosmopolitan Hotel later that year and according to Knight, the following scene went down:

“And I remember at the time thinking, well, I just spent two years at business school, and I am now working for a CPA firm, but it’s a strange way to form a company, but two things: one, I have got a lot of respect for Bill Bowerman’s ability to make shoes which several Olympians had worn; and two, I have to this day and at that time the greatest respect and regard for his integrity. And I thought, if you can’t trust Bowerman, who can you trust in the world? And we shook hands on a partnership at that time.”

At the hotel, both agreed to invest $500, buying 300 pairs of shoes to hit the ground running. The rest is history. Read the full story over on the Portland Business Journal and be on the lookout for Knight’s memoir Shoe Dog to arrive on April 26th.

Nike Air Max Tavas 1 Nike Air Max Tavas Nike Air Max Tavas 2

The Nike Air Max Tavas receives a new colorway for Spring 2016, as it’s treated in a vibrant rio teal finish.

Composed of a mixture of mesh and synthetics across its upper, the defining hue essentially covers the component as well, in addition to its perforated suede heel tab that offers additional reinforcement.

The greenish palette is continued along its laces and tongue, while accents of black adorn the inner lining, tongue tab, rear branding and portions of the outsole to complement the look.

Finished off with a clean white midsole unit, find the pair at select Nike accounts overseas first.

Nike SB P-Rod 9 Elite Cement

Paul Rodriguez‘s is the longest tenured skater at Nike SB, and he’s done for signature skate shoes what Michael Jordan brought to fruition ever since the Air Jordan 1. Whenever a Jordan-esque feature lands on a P-Rod signature, whether it be elephant print or cement speckling, there’s reason to get excited. This wouldn’t be the first time that Paul Rodriguez’s signature model has taken inspiration from the iconic lineage of a basketball model either – just look no further than the collaboration with Jordan brand atop the “J-Rod” release. The Nike SB P-Rod 9 Elite is back with cement speckling on the toe and heel while a simple black base utilizes flywire and fuse technologies for a lightweight yet supportive ride. A drop-in Lunarlon insole adds patented cushioning while the lingering influence of Nike’s Hexagonal Air hides below. This pair is available right now via Nike for $145 USD.

Look For The UNDFTD x Nike Dunk Lux Tomorrow

UNDFTD x Nike Dunk 1 UNDFTD x Nike Dunk UNDFTD x Nike Dunk 2 UNDFTD x Nike Dunk 3 UNDFTD x Nike Dunk 4 UNDFTD x Nike Dunk 5

Taking cues from the infrared-inspired colorway by the original Air Max 90, another look at this upcoming UNDFTD x Nike Dunk Lux is provided.

Flaunting a crisp white leather upper with tonal stitching, the model’s eye-catching elements are evidenced with the infrared Swooshes, as well as large branding seen on the side panels such as “NIKE and “1985” in contrasting black which essentially refers to period when the silhouette first released.

Further detailed with a “Just Do It” embroidery on the tongue, other notable finishes include grey laces, a black leather rear tag debossed with the Undefeated logo and co-branded swing tag.

Purchase it at select Nike accounts starting Thursday, April 21st for $165.

Author’s Take

I?ll always be a fan of this silhouette, although I don?t really wear it that often anymore. This finish is simple and minimal so I dig it. It would?ve been nice with a White Swoosh as well to pronounce the branding on the side more, but the Infrared touch isn?t bad.

Best Look Yet At The Nike Air Foamposite One Olympic

The 20th anniversary of the 1996 USA Olympic Gold Medal basketball team will occur this summer (hopefully, the team can bring back those 90s throwbacks in a similar fashion to how 2012’s team honored the Dream Team). Many forget that the follow-up to the greatest team possibly ever featured its own fair share of superstars like Shaquille O’Neal, Reggie Miller, and Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway. Nike Basketball is honoring the upcoming Rio games with the release of the Nike Air Foamposite One “Olympic”. The clean pair features a white base while the USA theme carries over through Obsidian accents, a University Red lining, and premium Metallic Gold 1 Cent logos throughout. While Penny never wore the Nike Foamposite One during the Olympics – his shoe of choice was the Nike Zoom Flight 96 at the time – we’re definitely excited to see a patriotic theme land on this iconic model. Check out a detailed look below and we’ll keep you updated on a release date in the near future.

Nike Transforms The Spiridon For 2016

You’ve never seen a Nike Spiridon like this before. Back in 1997 the Nike Zoom Spiridon wasn’t the crème de la crème of the sneaker world so to speak, but it was a formidable running offering that had a unique midsole, and its mesh webbing was reminiscent of the classic Air Max 95. But just in case you weren’t privy to the blown up Swoosh branding of this ’97 retro, know that Nike Sportswear is revitalizing the offering with a more modern tooling. The traditional midsole/outsole unit stays intact but the upper benefits from Flyknit and a sock-like fit for added comfort. While you can’t see all the details on this beautiful white on white colorway, check out a full view below and we’ll keep you updated on this new Spiridon model in the near future.

Johnny Manziel Dropped By Nike

Money Manziel’s gotta look for another company to pay him because athletics sportswear giant Nike, who has been by his side since before being drafted, officially dropped him as an endorsed athlete. Manziel has yet to live up to the massive hype accrued since being selected as a the cream of the crop a few years ago, but the bigger issue with the young football player is his off-the-field extra-curricular activities that have landed him in the doghouse. Recently, Manziel was also “fired” by agent Drew Rosenhaus based on a condition in their agreement that allowed the agent to terminate their deal within five days of the client being placed in rehab. Manziel was also spotted at Coachella, partying like his old self, which does not instill confidence in his fans or the Broncos. Will Johnny getting cut again? Stay tuned as this downward spiral continues its descent.
