Jordan Brand Gives The People What They Want This Holiday Season For A Price

One way or another I’m going to end 2016 crossing two retros I’ve waited a long time for off my list. On Black Friday, the Black/Cement True Blue Air Jordan 3 will have sneakerheads camping out outside of malls across America as the beloved classic returns with the much-desired “Nike Air” branding. Meanwhile, our annual Christmas Air Jordan 11 is going to be the big one as the Air Jordan 11 Space Jam has now been confirmed to be making a comeback right on time for its 20th anniversary. Needless to say if things fall into place, 2016 is going to be 30th anniversary of Jordan Brand that we should have gotten in 2015.

But at what cost? Jordan Brand increased production, quality and price of retros across the board in 2015, using classics like the Air Jordan 8 Aqua, obscure gems like the Air Jordan 6 Maroon and a new Air Jordan 11 colorway as test cases for what the market will support. The results were clear; people will buy retros at a higher price, but Jordan Brand can’t get away with releasing just any colorway they can crap out anymore if they want immediate sell-outs like the halcyon days of 2010 through 2014. Drop the right colorway, like the Air Jordan 4 White/Cement and give it “Nike Air” and you will move units in the hundreds of thousands, possibly millions. Meanwhile, a Maroon 6 will languish in stores waiting for somebody to inevitably bite or for a price drop to happen. So Jordan Brand is going for the sure sure things this holiday season.

Right now, general release retros are going for $190 with “Nike Air” branding apparently worth a $30 premium. Assuming things don’t change between now and the Holidays, that’s $220 for the Air Jordan 3 True Blue and that doesn’t even include taxes. As for the Air Jordan 11 Space Jam, expect to pay a little bit more than the $220 you did for last year’s Air Jordan 11 72-10, which went up from 2014’s Air Jordan 11 Legend Blue that was priced at $200, which was an increase from the $185 price tag of 2013’s Air Jordan 11 Gamma Blue. See the trend? So it’s possible you could be looking at $240 or maybe $250 even for the Space Jams before taxes. That’s nearly $500 for two retros and you have to “work” twice as hard to get them and they won’t come in a special box like a retro pack would. And we’re all going to buy them because we’re suckers fans. It’s the price we pay to stay in this sneaker game. Save for this weekend’s Air Jordan 12 The Master and the Flu Game 12s, I can see myself not really buying too many kicks between now and Thanksgiving just to both save up money (not really a problem) and patience (little problem), energy (actual problem) and good will to connects (biggest problem).

Yay?
Yay?

While I am glad that the Air Jordan 11 Space Jam is returning, there’s still the issue of the Air Jordan 3 making an all-too-soon comeback. If you’ll recall, Jordan Brand’s David Schechter said towards the end of 2014 that the 3 would be “going back in the vault.” In my mind, going back in the vault means that we won’t be seeing a new retail release for at least a minimum of five years. But then we started hearing rumors of an Air Jordan 3 and Air Jordan 8 pack that pays homage to Kobe Bryant’s career which turned out to be true, although the talk of that pack eventually dropping at retail hasn’t slowed down. There was the Air Jordan 3 Black/Cement at the Air Jordan XXX launch that looked way too new and clean to be the 2001 retro. And now word of the True Blue making a return is all but confirmed with the only thing missing is a leaked sample. Not that we’re saying the Jumpman is being a little disingenuous when they claim something is going away for a while, but maybe their definition of “going back in the vault” could use a little clarity.

Needless to say, this Holiday season is going to be a very busy time for sneakerheads. Actually, we always say that, but this one might top all of the previous seasons that came before. Two certified classics dropping in the same year? You could say that 2011’s Air Jordan 3 Black/Cement and Air Jordan 11 Concord combo or 2012’s Air Jordan 4 Playoffs and Air Jordan 11 Playoffs two-fer were better, but their Black Friday releases didn’t have “Nike Air” branding. The True Blue will more than likely have it. But what if it’s not the True Blue 3s that we have to worry about? What if it’s something else we weren’t expecting at all?

Welp, what could that mean? Is that the “price” we’re going to pay this time around?

Size Restocks Several Air Jordans Including The Bugs Bunny, Toro, And Much More

Yesterday Size? confirmed a restock of three key Jordan Retro releases of 2014/2015, but it appears that was just the tip of the iceberg because the UK-based shop actually re-released a number of other Air Jordans. We don’t want to ruin the surprise, so head to Size? right now and try to grab something before it disappears.

Air Jordan 11 Space Jam 20th Anniversary (2016)

Sound the common sense alarm, Jordan Brand might actually be giving the people what they want this holiday season. That’s right, the annual Christmas release that sets the world on fire (except maybe last year) could quite possibly be the much beloved Air Jordan 11 Space Jam. The release would be right on schedule too as the eponymous movie is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary this year as well. Combine that with Jordan Brand’s willingness to get Warner Bros. and Bugs Bunny back on board, and it just sounds right.

Now that the shoe has been confirmed as this year’s Holiday Air Jordan 11 release, we can only hope that this purported pair has received the remastered treatment on the level of the award-winning Air Jordan 1 Shattered Backboard or Air Jordan 6 Maroon (and that it has “45” on the heel).

So now we have 12 months or so to eagerly wait the return of the Air Jordan 11 Space Jam. If we had to take a guess, the release date would either be on December 17 or if they want to cut it real close to Christmas, Jordan Brand could set it for December 24. Now a potential wild card date could also be November 15, which was the original release date of the movie.

Air Jordan 11 Space Jam Releasing December 2016

It’s only February, but better get your Holiday season spending in order because Jordan Brand has not one, but two must-have Retro releases in the works this winter. Along with the Air Jordan 3 “True Blue” for Black Friday, Jordan Brand will release the Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” this December. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that 2016 is the 20th Anniversary of Space Jam, and we already gave you a heads up on it in our 2016 Predictions from early January. You can bet pricing will be similar, or perhaps higher than, the Air Jordan 11 “72-10” which was priced at $220. Your thoughts on the Space Jams being confirmed for December? Let us know in the comments below.

Author’s Takes

Andres Carrillo, News: The original mid version of the Air Jordan 5 is one of my favorite Jordan Brand silhouettes, but the low-top version just looks like an experiment gone wrong to me. These are an easy pass in my book.

I’ve never really paid attention to hybrid iterations of the original lineage. This colorway is solid, but I’m not a fan of the design. Fans should consider purchasing though.

Celebrate The Holidays With The Air Jordan 11 Space Jam

Air Jordan 11 Air Jordan 11 1

With major Jordan Brand releases typically synonymous with the holiday season, it already seems that the end of 2016 will be worth waiting, as the much coveted Air Jordan 11 Space Jam will make its official return once again.

Not surprisingly to coincide with the iconic Warner Bros. film’s 20th anniversary, the clean two-tone (black/white) silhouette initially released in 2000, followed by its first retro in 2009.

This remastered 2016 variation is set to drop at retailers on December, although stay tuned in to KicksOnFire for further updates and details as they arise.

NBA 2K16 Kicks: Air Jordan 12 The Master Stays Low-Key

For this week’s edition of NBA 2K16 Kicks, we take a look at the Air Jordan 12 The Master. This is probably the easiest edition of NBA 2K16 Kicks we will ever do, I’m not gonna lie. Mostly black, with a few hits of white and gold? This might as well be the generic 2K shoe, it’s so simple. But as a fan of the 12s, I actually appreciate Jordan Brand’s resistance to going all out with the 12 and implementing all sorts of crazy materials and colorways to the silhouette. With the limited color palette, Jordan Brand has really forced themselves to be creative and the results have been great so far, from the Playoffs to the Flu Games and the Obsidian and the Cool Grey and even the Rising Sun. Although the less we talk about the Gamma Blues that dropped in 2013 the better, honestly.

NBA 2K16_20160224174410 NBA 2K16_20160224174415 NBA 2K16_20160224174418

Missing in the shoe is the label on the heel that states “Quality Inspired By The Greatest Player Ever” and for some reason the numbers on the back don’t match, as if the left shoe uses the Chicago Bulls typography while the right uses the old Washington Wizards. With a mostly black upper, the nitpick with that part is that the textured leather can’t be brought into the game. It’s one of the things that we hope will be addressed at some point in future games. But overall, it’s a faithful recreation of Saturday’s release.

In just a couple of more days, the coveted Air Jordan 12 The Master will make its official debut at retailers nationwide.

With this latest set of images showcasing the silhouette in full family sizing, the sneakers are essentially defined by its stealthy black makeup, which takes inspiration from MJ’s ad campaign during the late ?90s. Comprised of premium leather, the understated profile is nicely offset by hits of grey on the side panels, white accents gracing the tongue and rear via branding and eye-catching metallic eyelets located near the collar.

Pricing is listed at $190, $140 (GS) and $80 (PS) respectively, so be sure to head over to your local JB and Nike retailer starting this Saturday, February 27th.

The Air Jordan 5 Low Fire Red Is Fast Approaching

AIR JORDAN 5 LOW 1 AIR JORDAN 5 LOW 2 AIR JORDAN 5 LOW 3 AIR JORDAN 5 LOW 4 AIR JORDAN 5 LOW 5 AIR JORDAN 5 LOW 6 AIR JORDAN 5 LOW 7

Is 2016 the year of Air Jordan 5 Low? It sure seems like it. Over the past month or so, I feel like a new Air Jordan 5 Low has released almost every single week. If you’re a fan of the low top version of the Air Jordan 5 and are looking for something with an OG feel to it, we have a feeling that you’re going to like the Air Jordan 5 Low Fire Red.

Just like the Air Jordan 5 Fire Red (Black tongue), this low version utilizes the same colors and color scheme. The upper comes with a white leather construction that ends up taking care of the entire base. Black and red accents appear all over the shoe to complete the theme as they are found on the side panel netting, midsole, tongue, lining and branding. Aside from the height of the shoe, the only features that differentiate the low top from the mid top is the absence of the embroidered “23” on the ankle, and the change of color on the netting. Releasing March 12th for $175, let us know what you think about this colorway on the Air Jordan 5 Low.

Want more info and images of the of the shoe? Be sure to check our Air Jordan 5 Low Fire Red hub page for all the up to the minute details.

Author’s Take

This is one of the better colorways of the Air Jordan 5, but it’s still not clean enough to make me want to spend $175 on them. I’m pretty sure I’m going to pass up on every single Air Jordan 5 Low release this year.

Being that the Air Jordan 30 is the latest Jordan Brand signature sneaker, it’s safe to say that a lot of Jordan Brand schools are going to be rocking the shoe for the remainder of season. One school that managed to get their own PE version of the shoe is Marquette. Let’s take a closer look at Marquette’s Air Jordan 30 University Blue PE.

The shoe comes in a predominantly white upper complimented by the University Blue gradient placed on rear end of the shoe. The toe of the shoe also comes in a blue hue to create some nice overall balance on the upper. Black accents appear on the collar, lining, tongue and laces. A white midsole and icy translucent outsole complete the look. Thoughts on this PE? Let us know in the comments below.

Author’s Take

I wish they would have taken more of a risk, being that the shoe is a PE. If you would not have told me, I would have thought that this was just another colorway of the shoe.
