‘My homey Strick told me, “Dude, finish your breakfast”‘ – Jay Z from “Public Service Announcement”

Today is National Cereal Day. For today’s Sneaker Grails we’re going to talk about a Nike Air Force 1 Low drop from a few years back that references breakfast and the life lessons it can teach. Because Jay and Strick said so.

“Public Service Announcement” is a song off Jay Z’s classic – and arguably best work – The Black Album. Marketed as the final Jay Z album, Hov knew he had to finish strong and he delivered with songs like “99 Problems”, “Encore”, “Lucifer”, “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” and much more. It was an event not unlike what Jay and his wife Beyonce and his buddy Kanye West do nowadays for their new albums (or Yeezy Seasons), but with way more lead time and advertisement to get the fans itching with anticipation.

The “Strick” that Jay talks about in the song is John Strickland, a New York City Streetball legend and friend of Jay’s who passed away in his sleep at the too early age of 38. Nicknamed “The Franchise”, Strickland was not your typical streetball star because he didn’t dazzle you with his fancy attire and deft ball-handling, although he could break that out too when it mattered. Rather he destroyed anybody who dared try him in the post. While dominating the NYC scene for two decades, he also played in the CBA and the PBL, taking him to places like Halifax, where he earned quite the following there as well.

“Finish Your Breakfast” is a line that Strickland liked to use to emphasize finishing strong. Whenever you had an easy shot or a lay-up or a dunk, Strick would say that so that you wouldn’t take those points for granted. It stuck with Jay and according to his book Decoded, since The Black Album was supposed to be his final album, it had to be a sure thing like a lay-up. While everybody agrees that “Finish Your Breakfast” is Strick’s most famous catchphrase, the line in the song has been disputed for years, with some saying Jay said it to Strick during a 2003 game or that Strick said to someone who botched an alley-oop. Like most arguments about sneakers, it doesn’t actually matter; Strick’s message is what resonates. Finish strong or don’t even bother.

In 2011, Nike Sporstwear honored Strick’s legacy with a special white version of the Nike Air Force 1 Low. From afar or to the untrained eye, it looks like your run of the mill AF1 Low, but a closer inspection reveals that the swoosh did right by Strick. Premium leather construction, Strick’s “Franchise” nickname embossed on the heel and of course, the line “Finish Your Breakfast” can be found on the tongue tag. It’s a fitting tribute to a man who gave us so much. While I will admit to not knowing much about Strick during his time here on Earth, I could feel the love from the people who knew him in doing research for this piece. RIP, Strick…

The high-definition use of Multi-Color Flyknit patterns on the side panel stand-out from a clean white backdrop while a premium leather Swoosh adds to the pristine appearance. Fans of the Nike Dunk High CMFT will be happy to hear that 3 tonal colorway of the shoe are set to release in the neat future. Today we get a quick look at all three versions and fill you in with all we know regarding these releases.

The shoe will come in three different colors: Red, Black or White. All three pairs will come in a leather construction in which a different hue placed on the laces and branding help create some nice contrast on the upper. A white midsole appears on all three, while some kind of wording can be seen creeping out of the heel of the shoe. No word yet on what the words are on the heel, but we’re pretty sure that it has to do with the theme of the shoe. You like the look? Kind of reminds me of the Supreme x Nike Air Force 1 collaboration, right?

The colors on the shoe are nothing new, we’ve seen this before. What I’m curious to see is what the words on the heel say. I’m sure that will be a big deciding factor for people who are on the fence about the shoe.

Ladies, if you’re in the market for some bold sneakers for the spring season, take a good look at this upcoming Huarache dubbed the Nike Air Huarache Run Pink Blast. If bright is what you’re looking for, I think we’ve found your match.

The shoe was actually given a first look earlier this week as a part of Nike Huarache spring collection. Tinker Hatfield’s classic creation takes on a Pink Blast upper offset by the black and Hyper Crimson hits placed throughout the shoe. There is also a feature on the shoe worth mentioning being that we don’t usually see it on this mode. If you take a look at the pink overlays you will notice that they come covered in micro-perforations to give the model and new look and feel. A white midsole and black outsole complete the look of the shoe. Said to be releasing this spring, we will be sure to let you know once that date arrives.

I wonder if the micro-perforations actually make a difference, as in make the shoe more breathable. The shoe is bright alright, so if that’s the look you’re going for, this shoe will be a good choice.

Yesterday we previewed over ten upcoming Nike Huarache releases for Spring 2016. The collection focused on three models: the Nike Huarache Ultra, Nike Air Huarache Light, and the ever-classic original Nike Air Huarache. Tinker’s iconic model trended on the tonal side this season, but one of the standouts of the five or so colorways previewed was this women’s exclusive “Pink Blast” colorway. The pair immediately brought memories of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund exclusives thanks to the vibrant pink shade on the overlays, but a few things remain of interest: the Hyper Crimson heel strap seems a bit random and micro-perforations on the overlay add some depth. It’s safe to say that the Nike Air Presto Safari that dropped yesterday was one of the best releases of the weekend. When the shoe was initially unveiled many people sort of overlooked it, but as the release date got closer and we were able to see on-feet images of the shoe, many people began to gain interest. While I did not attempt to get a pair, I did hear that it was a bit difficult to get one.

The Safari version of the Nike Air Presto comes in a neoprene upper covered in Nike Safari print placed all over the shoe. The print in nicely contrasted by the contrasting cage construction to complete the Safari theme. Enough about the shoe, you already what it looks like. I kind of regret not trying to get a pair, but the main reason i chose not to is because the slip-on upper is not kind to my wide foot. I have a Tech Fleece Presto and it’s one of the hardest shoes to put on. That’s why I chose not to try to get a pair.

When legendary skate brand Supreme hooks up with Nike Sportswear for a footwear release, their iconic collaborative process usually comes in three options: white, black, and the ever-sought-after red. We saw it happen most recently with the Nike Air Force 1 High and now this inline Nike Dunk High CMFT is mirroring ‘Preme’s ways with similar color choices. No, this isn’t a Supreme Nike Dunk, but just in case you’re nostalgic for the days when the skate brand brought their signature style to the iconic model, you can get a similar vibe here. The back heel brand is of interest, as each pair features bold white branding with different wordmarks (that of which remain a mystery given the photo limitations here). It’s Saturday, so that means a lot of new sneakers released today. Two of those releases happened to be a couple of different colorways of the Nike Air Force 1 Ultra Flyknit, and they couldn’t be anymore different from each other.

The first colorway comes in an all-white motif in which the upper is constructed out of a white Flyknit and white leather. The second option comes in multicolor fashion as the Flyknit comes in the beloved multicolor offering while being offset by the hits of black placed all over the shoe. Tonal soles accompany both shoes to complete the look of the shoe. Are you a fan of the all-white look, or do you like some color in your life? Either way you can’t go wrong with either. The Nike Air Classic BW is considered one of the most classic Air Max models that Nike has to offer. Releasing between the Air Max 90 and and Air Max 95, the shoe is often overlooked by the majority of us. Nike looks to change that as they plan on giving the shoe extra attention throughout the year.

Looking to give the shoe a modern upgrade, Nike has decided to cover the upper of the Classic BW in a synthetic snakeskin found in all of the black areas found on the upper. Contrasting the black is the Persian Violet hits placed on the tongue, lining, heel, sole and Nike Swoosh of the shoe. Rounding out the look of the shoe are the white accents placed on the heel, midsole and piping of the shoe. What are your thoughts on this version of the Nike Air Classic BW using the premium snakeskin hits? Like the new modern look or do you prefer the classic construction?

I prefer this classic model in it’s classic state. The snakeskin upper is cool, but being that the shoe is barely coming back into the spotlight, I think should have waited a little bit before giving the shoe a new look. I would have preferred different colorway instead of a different construction.

Not only did Nike and Kevin Durant unveil the Nike KD 8 Elite this week, it also appears as if the next KD model was also leaked just moments ago. Although we can’t confirm 100% what the name of the shoe is in the image above, there are several rumors stating that it’s the latest installment of the Nike KD Trey 5 series, the Nike KD Trey 5 IV.

Unlike the Nike KD 8 Elite, our first look of the shoe shows it coming in a much lower cut than the KD 8 Elite. The part of the shoe shown gives us a close look at the tongue of the shoe as it features a hand throwing up the thumbs up sign along with the KD letters placed on the wrist. If you also take a closer look at the image you will see that the shoe’s tongue also comes covered in different embossed script that I’m now quite able to read on these images. If you tell what words are, please help a homie out! Check out the images above and let us know what your initial thoughts are on the shoe.

The thumbs up patch is different, but Im definitely not against it. While I’m unable to read what the words on the tongue say, I think it’s good of the tongue that adds another dimension to the shoe. I’m looking forward to see more images of the shoe.

The Nike Air Force 1 is forever evolving. There’s probably no other Nike shoe that has as many versions as the Air Force 1. One of the reasons the Nike Air Force 1 Ultra Flyknit is well liked is because the shoe is substantially lighter and more breathable than the original Air Force 1. If you’re a fan of the modern look that the Nike Air Force 1 Ultra Flyknit consists of, there’s a good chance you’re also going to like the Nike Air Force 1 Low Upstep BR.

This new version of the AF1 comes with an upper that features Nike’s Breathe technology that helps make the shoe much more lighter, breathable and comfortable. All the current colorways set to release come in a tonal offering, with some even donning a striped Nike Swoosh on the side panels for an added dimension. A matching midsole and tonal outsole complete the look of the shoe. No release date on this brand new model but be sure to let us know what you think of this new look of the AF1.

Aside from the amazing games that March Madness will provide, I’m also looking forward to see what the players will be wearing on their feet. We recently got a sneak peak of what the Oklahoma Sooners will be wearing once they begin their journey to the championship game.

The shoes you see above consist of 2 Nike PEs as the Nike Kyrie 2 and the Nike Kobe 11 Elite come in the Oklahoma Sooner’s school colors. The Kyrie 2 comes in a white upper contrasted by the crimson hits found on the Nike Swoosh and sole of the shoe. The Nike Kobe 11 Elite also comes in white and crimson, but it also adds some grey Flyknit add another dimension to the shoe. Odds are you won’t be able to get a pair of these (unless you ply of OSU), but we just wanted to give you some eyecandy on this fine Saturday afternoon.

The white and multicolor version of the Nike Kobe 11 that we showed you earlier this week has gotten a release date and it’s coming quick.

Believed to possibly the Easter colorway of the Kobe 11, it turns out that Nike is calling this the Nike Kobe 11 Elite 4KB. What does that 4KB stand for? Well at this point we don’t really know but we’re sure that the backstory/theme behind the name will be unveiled by Nike very soon. Looking at the shoe we can see that the upper is dominated by a White Flyknit with multicolor detailing appearing on the side panels. Almost everything else on the shoe has been left white including the outsole, tongue, and inner liner with the exception of some color being added on the heel tabs.

Look for the Nike Kobe 11 Elite 4KB at Nike retailers on March 14th for a retail price of $220.

Kind of looks like the Kobe 9 ?What The? but in low-top form. I have a feeling not many people will like this colorway because of how plain it is. I know I don?t, especially not for $220.
