Kanye And Boost Are Helping adidas, But Nike Is Still Destroying The Competition

In Forbes’ recently released list of the world’s most valuable brands, Nike comes in at number eighteen overall thanks to a robust $27.5 billion in brand value. In the category of apparel, Nike is sitting pretty at number one, beating out other labels such as Louis Vuitton, Uniqlo, and noted rival adidas. In fact, despite adidas’ impressive efforts in product and brand management/marketing the competition is much less fierce than what bloggers and random tweets suggest. Yes, the Yeezy Boost resells for more than your average Air Jordan Retro. But the brands don’t benefit much financially from aftermarket, and although adidas has its hits with other silhouettes like the adidas NMD and the Ultra Boost, Nike is not only worth more, but growing at a faster rate (Nike’s 1-year value change is at 5%, whereas adidas’ value went up by 2%). adidas is certainly having a moment in sneaker and fashion culture, but the brand as a whole won’t be boosted by the work of a few choice sneakers. Peep the full list by Forbes here and let us know if you think adidas will ever catch up.

Flashback to 96: The Nike Air Penny 2

We?re going back to 1996 once again to remember another model from one of the greatest years of sneakers ever. After taking a look at Shaquille O?Neal?s iconic Reebok Shaqnosis last month, we couldn?t forget the Diesel?s partner in crime with the Orlando Magic, Penny Hardaway. Of course, no retrospective of sneakers from the ?90s could be complete without Penny?s signature models?especially one focused on 1996 when he wore the Nike Air Penny 1 for the ?95-96 NBA season and the Air Penny 2 for the ?96-97 season. Since we already took a look at the Penny 1 last year in Flashback to ?95, today we?ll recap the history of the Air Penny 2, his second signature model that many regard to be the best of his acclaimed line. And yes, don?t worry, Lil? Penny will be making an appearance.

The Classic Black And Yellow Color Scheme Makes Its Way To The Nike Air Force 1 Low

NIKE AIR FORCE 1 LOW 1 NIKE AIR FORCE 1 LOW 2 NIKE AIR FORCE 1 LOW 3 NIKE AIR FORCE 1 LOW 4 NIKE AIR FORCE 1 LOW 5 NIKE AIR FORCE 1 LOW 6

Very few sneaker color combinations are better than the Black and Yellow pairing. The colors are so opposite but they still manage to work great together like peanut butter and jelly. The color scheme makes its way to the classic Nike Air Force 1 Low, and the outcome is a good one.

The shoe comes in Black and Yellow color-blocking done in a leather construction. The Black leather appears to come in smooth fashion, while the Yellow has more of a textured feel to it. Black lining and a Yellow outsole blend in very nicely with the shoe’s upper, while a White midsole provides a bit of a break between the two-toned look. Available now, pick up your pair from select Nike retailers for $90.

Author’s Take

I love the Black and Yellow look, and this pair is no different. The color blocking is done right. Great looking shoe.

Is The A First Look At The Nike Metcon 3

Nike Metcon 3 1 Nike Metcon 3 2 Nike Metcon 3 3

It’s only been a few months since the Nike Metcon 2 made its debut and we’re already getting our first look at what may be the Nike Metcon 3.

The silhouette that you see above is reported to be the Nike Metcon 3 and features a seamless mesh upper in black with white detailing on the outsole, branding, and Flywire on the side panels. The design on the Metcon 3 looks somewhat different than the Metcon 2, but as long as it does what it’s supposed to do I’m sure people will like it.

There is no release date yet for the Nike Metcon 3, but stay tuned to Kicks On Fire for updates.

Author’s Take

The design looks very similar to the Metcon 2. I’m not into training shoes like this so I don’t plan on picking up a pair anyway.

Nike Air Max 90 White / Black / Grey

NIKE AIR MAX 90 ` NIKE AIR MAX 90 2

The beauty of the Nike Air Max 90 is that the shoe manages to look good in many different ways. The silhouette is very versatile, which in return makes it an ideal canvas to do whatever you want on it. Tonal uppers, subtle uppers, bright and bold motifs, prints and textures, everything looks good on the shoe (well, almost everything). This time around the Air Max 90 takes the subtle route as a White / Black / Grey colorway makes its way to the model.

The shoe starts off with a leather and mesh upper. The base of the shoe comes in White, while hits of Black and Grey are placed on the mudguard, eyelets, heel tab, Nike Swoosh, branding and midsole surrounding the Air Max bubble. Nothing out of the ordinary, but that’s perfectly okay when it comes to the Nike Air Max 90. Available internationally, we will let you know if these end up dropping stateside.

Author’s Take

It’s solid. There’s so man iterations of the model, that sometimes we tend to overlook some of them. Don’t sleep on this versatile pair.

The Nike Flyknit Racer Rainbow Debuts Tomorrow

Nike Flyknit Racer Nike Flyknit Racer 1 Nike Flyknit Racer 2

While this upcoming Nike Flyknit Racer is reminiscent of the popular multicolor offering from 2013, this actual model dubbed, “Rainbow,” utilizes the same vibrantly colored knitted aesthetic, although the application of a grey-colored tongue is the only notable differentiation.

Tonal black accents applied on the Swoosh branding across its side panels, laces, lining of its collar and portion of the midsole further solidifies its eye-catching palette, as it’s topped off by a white for the remainder of its sole unit.

You can purchase a pair at select Nike accounts worldwide starting Friday, May 13th for $150.

Author’s Take

I?m biased towards this silhouette. This colorway is surely one of its most sought after. I don?t mind the slight change to its tongue color.

Author’s Take

While I do know who Andre Agassi is, I was never one to get into tennis or tennis shoes. While it’s cool to see this shoe get the retro treatment, I don’t think this shoe is for me.
