Chelsea Ends Partnership With adidas, Signs Contract With Nike For Over $1 Billion

Chelsea has announced a new 15-year £900 million sponsorship with Nike to start during the 2017-2018 season, thus ending their current deal with adidas. This will be the largest kit partnership in the history of English football clubs, as the sponsorship will come in at roughly £60 million per season (still behind the yearly total of Manchester United’s 10-year £75 million contract with adidas).

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia had this to say about the new partnership between the Blues and the Swoosh: ?This is an incredibly exciting and important deal for the club. Like Chelsea, Nike is known around the world for its excellence and innovation and we look forward to working together in what is sure to be a successful partnership. We believe Nike will be able to support our growth into new markets as well as helping us maintain our place among the world?s elite football clubs.?

Trevor Edwards, President of Nike Brand also chimed in: ?Chelsea is a world-class club with a rich tradition and passionate fans across the globe. The partnership with Chelsea reinforces our leadership position in football. We are excited to help grow the club?s global reach, serving players and supporters with Nike innovation and design.”

What do you think about Chelsea’s switch from the three stripes to the Swoosh? Stay tuned for more updates right here on Sneaker News.

Kyrie Irving Confirms Release Date For Nike Kyrie 3

Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers are still riding high off the momentum from last season’s incredible NBA Finals win, but with the upcoming season only a few weeks away, there’s still plenty to figure out as the dust settles before the Cavs hang their first banner in the rafters. Early reports had the Nike Kyrie 3 slated for a late-November early-December preview from Nike Basketball with design duties likely handed over to Leo Chang once again. But now we have word from Kyrie himself courtesy of WFNY’s Scott Sargent confirming that the Kyrie 3 will release on January 21st, 2017. According to Irving:

?I think we release on January 21st but I definitely will be wearing a pair of 3s for Christmas and going forward for any other holidays,? Kyrie said following the Cavalier’s Thursday shootaround. ?January 21st is what we?re looking to aim at. I?m excited. I?m excited to put the product out to you guys and the stories behind the shoes and the creative behind it. I get really juiced up about it. I get to put my artistic mind to the test.?

Nike Air Foamposite One Night Maroon Releases Next Week

2017 will be a banner year for the Nike Air Foamposite One, as Nike Basketball and Nike Sportswear will honor Eric Avar’s legendary albeit polarizing basketball model’s 20th anniversary with a number of new colorways, OG retros, and more. Until then, the Swoosh is still creating awesome new offerings for this upcoming Fall/Winter 2016 season like the Nike Foamposite Night Maroon slated to release on October 20th for $230 USD.

Classic gum bottoms on the Nike Air Foamposite One are by no means a traditional offering for the famed basketball retro, but it is a feature that Nike started to utilize a few years ago. By adding the gum outsole, a jarring contrast occurs between the bottom and the unique, still-somehow futuristic Foamposite upper. The Nike Foamposite Night Maroon features a pearlescent dose of deep maroon throughout the Foamposite construction while a traditional black lining keeps things simple. Expect this pair to appear somewhere on the Cleveland Cavaliers’ bench rotation before the All-Star break.

The Nike Air Foamposite One “Night Maroon” releases at select retailers like Rock City Kicks next Thursday. Check out our best view of the latest Foamposite offering below and be sure to stay updated on the latest release dates right here on Sneaker News.

As you can see in the last image above, the entire upper of the shoe reflects when hit by the light.

Author’s Take

The camo graphic on the upper is a good look and the fact they’re reflective is also pretty cool. Solid colorway for a reasonable price.

Nike’s latest Air Max flagship model is introduced today as we get our first official look at the Nike Air Max 2017.

Boasting a full engineered mesh upper, the Air Max 2017 features a wave pattern/design on the mesh side panels while a large Swoosh has also been added on both the lateral and medial sides. One big difference between the 2017 in comparison to the past couple Air Max models is the fact that Nike decided to remove the Dynamic Flywire that was put in place to lock down the foot. Other details include reflective 3M hits on the upper as well as an Air Max unit sole.

Take a look at two colorways above (blue and black) and look for the Nike Air Max 2017 to debut on November 7, 2016. Stay tuned to Kicks On Fire for updates.

Author’s Take

The design looks decent, but I think Nike should have kept the Dynamic Flywire. It gave the shoe more lifestyle appeal in my opinion. I’m curious to see these in person and try on a pair.

The women’s Nike Air Max 1 Ultra receives a premium update this Fall 2016, as it’s treated in an autumnal finish of mahogany/night maroon.

With the defining tones essentially blended across the entire upper in metallic fashion, the result is a bold, yet eye-catching profile overall which emits shimmering flair and hues in various lightning conditions. In addition, the component is detailed with embossed perforations throughout for a more distinctive look.

All offset against a crisp white midsole unit and matching maroon outsole, you can purchase this pair at select Nike retailers now for $130.

Author’s Take

The silhouette is a classic and in this colorway, it’s an appealing option for the season. Minus the embossed perforations and this pair looks a lot better in a cleaner profile.

The Nike Air Unlimited Is Releasing In Tonal Colorways

The Nike Air Unlimited is regarded as one of Nike Basketball’s most avant-garde designs, and with NBA legend David Robinson wearing them on court, the recipe for success was rather simple. Last year, Pigalle brought the Air Unlimited out of the vault to give us a taste of this retro goodness, and this Holiday, this iconic hoops shoe will get a big push in several OG and premium colorways. Today we get a detailed look at the “Purple Smoke” and “Noble Red” colorways, which feature tonal uppers and solid white soles in the predictable NikeLab technique. These are releasing today at select Nike Sportswear retailers and should release on Nike.com shortly.

The Nike Air Unlimited Is Getting The Signature NikeLab Look

NikeLab’s predictable approach of fashioning its Retro models with tonal leather uppers and solid white outsoles isn’t stopping anytime soon. While that aesthetic is a great match for silhouettes from the 70s and 80s (Air Force 1, Blazer, Dunk, etc), is it the right fit for more eccentric designs like the Air Unlimited? We saw the tan suede version not long ago so it isn’t too surprising that the tonal-on-white look is surfacing in other colorways, like this all-black version that is set to release this Holiday season (coincidentally, a perfect fit for Spurs legend David Robinson). We’ll let you know when a release date is locked in.

First Look At The Nike Air Max 2017

Introducing the Nike Air Max 2017. The signature Air Max line seems set on the combination of Engineered Mesh and 360 degrees of visible Air on the midsole and outsole unit, as that duo has been the standard for the past four models. But this year, the regularly visible Dynamic Flywire is ditched for a unique new aesthetic.

Details still remain rather limited in regards to the Air Max 2017, but from the official photos previewed throughout this post, the rigid mesh construction creates a wavy upper that bolsters the side panel and heel for a head-turning design sure to make, well, waves once a number of colorways arrive on November 7th in men’s, women’s, and kid’s size runs. The signature Engineered Mesh construction adds a flexible ventilation to the forefront and helps solidify a gradient before reaching the reflective 3M Swoosh branding on the side panel.

Check out the two debut colorways of the Nike Air Max 2017 below and let us know if you plan on grabbing a pair on November 7th in the comments section.

UNC Vibes On This Nike Air Force 1 Mid University Blue

A dope Nike Air Force 1 Mid recently dropped and this one comes in a pretty bold colorway that has the shoe comes in a University Blue hue. If you’re a fan of this shade of Blue and can’t get enough of the Air Force 1, I advise you take a look at this readily available release.

Constructed out of a combination of nubuck and leather, the majority of the shoe’s upper is done in the aforementioned University Blue colorway. The same hue also takes care of the strap, laces, lining, tongue and tongue branding. Giving the shoe some nice pop are the White hits placed on the Nike Air on the heel, the Nike Swoosh on the panels, the tongue tag and the entire sole unit. Out now, pick up your very own pair for $95. North Carolina fans, would you rock these? Let us know in the comments below.

Author’s Take

Very bold looking, but I’m just not a fan of this colorway. I love many shades of Blue, just not this one.

An On-Feet Look At The Nike Air Huarache Ultra Cool Grey

Nike Air Huarache Ultra Cool Grey 1 Nike Air Huarache Ultra Cool Grey 2 Nike Air Huarache Ultra Cool Grey 3

Up next for the Nike Air Huarache Ultra is this Cool Grey offering that will look pretty dope during this Fall season. Rocking a tonal motif, let’s take a closer look at this upcoming drop.

Opting to keep the aesthetics of the shoe very minimal, the upper is constructed out of mesh and neoprene all done in a Cool Grey colorway. Providing minimal contrast is the “NIKE” branding on the heel strap and the additional branding on the tongue. Cleaning things up is the all-White midsole and Black outsole noted below. Very versatile looking, you really can’t go wrong with picking these up. Expect these to drop stateside during the coming weeks. Hot or not? Sound off in the comments below.

Author’s Take

While I do appreciate the range of colors and Huarache models Nike gives us, I do feel at times that some of the new releases appear to be a little repetitive. These are cool, but it’s not anything I’ve never seen before.
