Nike Explores The History Of Foamposite, Sharing Original Sketches, Samples, and More

Nike celebrates, a major anniversary this year, the 20th anniversary of the Nike Air Foamposite One. The sneakers that introduced an entire new design language and style to the basketball court?and the street?is no doubt one of Nike’s most important models of all time, and the brand recognizes its impact with a look back at its birth.

The brain-child of Nike designer Eric Avar, Foamposite technology was created to act as a “liquid foam” that wrapped the foot, providing a dynamic fit and support, as well as added durability in comparison to traditional basketball sneaker constructions. Recalling his original thought process for Foamposite, Avar states, ?There was this notion of what if you literally just dipped your foot in this liquid bath of material and it just sucked around your foot? And what if you could go play basketball in that? That was the inspiration and I tried hard to get people to see that.?

The time spent developing and designing the unprecedented Foamposite was obviously not in vain, as it’s gone on to become one of the most iconic and recognizable models in Nike’s history?all while still looking like it could be from the future. Celebrate the 20th anniversary with a look at a few original sketches and prototypes, including one with an Air Max heel unit, and expect the original “Royal” colorway of the Air Foamposite One to hit select Nike Sportswear retailers beginning tomorrow, January 20th. (Release info HERE.)

The Nike LeBron 14 Black Ice Releases This Saturday In Greater China

We’re still a few weeks away from the first retail release of the LeBron 14, but China will have first dibs on the debut colorway of LeBron’s latest signature model, as the Nike LeBron 14 “Black Ice” will arrive in the greater China region this Saturday, January 21st.

The Stone Island x NikeLab Sock Dart Mid Releases Next Thursday

Tobie Hatfield’s Nike Sock Dart was a cult-classic the moment it debuted in 2004. Since then, Nike Sportswear has rightfully returned the running model to its proper place as a heralded lifestyle crossover through collaborations with Hiroshi Fujiwara’s fragment design and a number of new constructions from Tech Fleece to new SE toolings. The original featured a game-changing computerized knit upper and was the first step toward Nike’s advancement in Flyknit technology. Now the upcoming Stone Island Nike Sock Dart Mid collaboration once again reinvents the model with updated water-resistant materials on January 26th in three colorways.

Stone Island transforms the Nike Sock Dart with a new mid-cut design with a silicon print upper created through Nike’s sandwich mesh fabric in Italy. What resulted was a graphic texturized upper with a faded aesthetic that not only will turn heads but maintains the Sock Dart’s heralded ventilation system and flexibility. The Stone Island Nike Sock Dart Mid also features an updated Ariaprene collar while the natural motion-tooled outsole adds additional multi-directional patterns for a better grip this winter season.

Stone Island’s NikeLab Sock Dart Mid collaboration will be available January 26th at NikeLab retailers, online at nike.com/nikelab, Stone Island Flagship Stores and at stoneisland.com. Check out more detailed shots below and stay tuned for more Release Date updates right here on Sneaker News.

Detailed Look At The Nike LeBron 14 Out Of Nowhere

LeBron’s just a kid from Akron, Ohio. That slogan has been uttered during every major career accomplishment for LBJ from his three championships to his four MVP trophies. The ‘Out of Nowhere’ campaign has been a larger theme involving a number of athletes for Nike Basketball this season inspired by LeBron’s incredible chase-down block in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, and today we get a detailed look at the Nike LeBron 14 “Out Of Nowhere” colorway.

The Nike LeBron 14 Out Of Nowhere colorway debuted during the Cavaliers’ win over the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day (you can see more on-feet shots here) featuring an ACRONYM Presto-like colorway with Volt and Bright Crimson accents on Wolf Grey and Black base. The head-turning colorway also introduced the world to the new construction that completely ditched any sign of Posite material on the upper for a seamless mesh slip-on base. Traces of the hexagonal Zoom Air return here for maximum cushioning and responsiveness while a midfoot strap adds lockdown support.

While the Nike LeBron 14 Black Ice is slated for a January 28th release for $175 USD, we still don’t have a release date for the coming Nike LeBron 14 Out Of Nowhere just yet. Check out the most detailed look at the colorway yet below and stay tuned for more updates right here on Sneaker News.

NikeLab Releases An Air Max 90 Flyknit

Introducing the Nike Air Max 90 Flyknit. NikeLab has transformed the iconic running model through the use of the Swoosh’s latest Flyknit technology, and it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that this transformation has taken place given the fact that the Nike Air Max 1 was recently the recipient of a woven overhaul.

The Nike Air Max 90 Flyknit debuts in two monochromatic colorways ranging from a light blue known as “Ocean Fog” and a simple Black. Interestingly enough, these premium renditions alternate between using leather or suede accents on the tongue, heel, and mudguard. The murdered out all black pair benefits from NikeLab’s ongoing love affair with premium leather touches while the Ocean Fog option receives a subtle suede upgrade. Each pair keeps the original and fan-favorite Air Max 90 midsole and outsole unit, so despite the new lightweight woven upper, there’s no ‘Ultra’ retooling on the bottom.

Check out more of the NikeLab Air Max 90 Flyknit below and know that shops like Foot Patrol have each pair in stock today. Look out for this pair stateside in the near future on Nike.com.

The Stone Island x NikeLab Sock Dart Drops Next Week

The limited edition Stone Island x NikeLab Sock Dart is finally introduced following the reveal of its official imagery.

Since its inception in 2002, the silhouette is essentially a classic. Its computerized knit upper was the first step in the innovation now known as Flyknit.

In collaboration with the Italian sportswear label, renowned for innovating outerwear, the brand reinterprets the iconic design in a mid cut, and boasts a water-resistant build courtesy of a silicon print on the upper that was created through Stone Island’s firsthand experimentation with Nike?s sandwich mesh fabric in Italy.

A combined graphic look was also achieved, as the engineered print ? a first for Nike and a testament to Stone Island?s legacy of textile innovation ? gives the shoe’s upper a fading dégradé effect. This ensures zonal protection and breathability, while maintaining the sneaker’s signature flexibility.

Finishing details include its distinctive strap comprised of soft, supportive Ariaprene?, a new outsole in the forefoot that improves traction and a smaller, co-branded version of the signature Stone Island badge located on the tongue.

Rendered in black, obsidian and sequoia colorways, each retails for $200 and can be purchased at select NikeLab retailers as well as directly through Stone Island on January 26th.
