Author’s Take

Juan Carrillo, News: I like the sleeker look Nike and LeBron opted to go with on the LeBron 14. I can also see this model being worn as a lifestyle/casual sneaker. The shoe definitely has potential. Looking forward to see what else the shoe has in store for us.

Get Ready For The Nike Flyknit Racer University Red (Fire Rooster)

Lifestyle imagery of the upcoming Nike Flyknit Racer University Red is showcased, as it’s scheduled to make its debut this week.

Notably a homage to Chinese New Year (Jan. 28th) and the Year of The Rooster — the sneaker’s aesthetic is actually fire rooster-inspired with its vibrant university red and deep crimson finish across its intricately knitted upper.

Tonal black accents ate further applied on the tongue, inner lining and swooshes, while a 3M reflective pull tab is placed on the heel. Finally, a black and white sole unit caps off the sleek composition.

Priced at $150, you can purchase this standout pair at select Nike retailers worldwide starting Friday, January 27th.

Look Out For The Stone Island x NikeLab Sock Dart Black This Week

Lifestyle imagery of the Stone Island x NikeLab Sock Dart, particularly in its black finish is featured, as it consists as the latest premium makeover of the classic silhouette this season.

Essentially revamped by the Italian sportswear label with a mid-cut finish, in addition to applying a water-resistant build courtesy of a silicon print on the upper, the model also bears a graphic look evident throughout, which gives the shoe?s upper a fading dégradé effect. This offers zonal protection and breathability, while maintaining the sneaker?s signature flexibility.

Rounding out the profile is the signature strap, a new outsole in the forefoot that improves traction and a smaller, co-branded version of the signature Stone Island badge on the tongue.

The Nike SB Stefan Janoski Gets The Triple Black Look

Leather on the Janoski is becoming a trend as we took a look at the new White leather colorway not too long ago.

The next iteration of the Nike SB Stefan Janoski in leather takes on the Triple Black treatment as the entire shoe comes covered in black. Everything from the leather upper to the laces and even the branding has been blacked out. To keep things tonal the rubber midsole and outsole have also been blacked out. The only slight contrast comes on the inner liner which has been done in Anthracite.

LeBron Wore A New Nike LeBron 14 PE This Past Weekend

There was a big NBA match-up this weekend that has LeBron and the Cavaliers take on Kawhi and the San Antoni Spurs. It took the entire 48 minutes and an additional 5 more (overtime), but the Spurs managed to get the W. Although LeBron and company didn’t get what they are after, LeBron went out in style as he was seen wearing a brand new colorway of his upcoming signature shoe, the Nike LeBron 14.

Said to be a PE colorway, this LeBron 14 comes in a clean Grey and Maroon color scheme that keeps things fairly simple, but sometimes (like in this case) less is more. Additional features on the shoe include the speckled midsole, icy outsole and the darker Maroon placed on the branding. I mentioned that this colorway appears to be a player exclusive, but would you like to see these release sometime down the line? Let us know in the comments below.

Nike Officially Unveils The NikeLab x UNDERCOVER SFB Jungle Dunk

Nike has officially unveiled their latest collaboration with Japanese brand UNDERCOVER known as the NikeLab x UNDERCOVER SFB Jungle Dunk.

NikeLab has worked with UNDERCOVER designer Jun Takahashi to bring his latest footwear idea to life. This design is a winter boot that merges the upper of the Nike Dunk, the tooling and outsole of the SFB Jungle Boot and the heel cage of the Air Huarache. It balances the designer?s aesthetic with winter-ready design features and the basketball, skateboarding and street heritage of each shoe.

As far as materials go, the NikeLab x UNDERCOVER SFB Jungle Dunk has a tumbled leather upper, Magwire lacing system and water-resistant toe atop a durable rubber outsole with increased traction and drainage ports on the forefoot. Other details include the word CHAOS on the back heel strap of the left shoe, and BALANCE on the back of the right shoe ? which nod to similar applications on UNDERCOVER apparel. The sidewall of the shoe has a triangle pattern, also featured in UNDERCOVER and NikeLab Gyakusou collections.

The NikeLab x UNDERCOVER SFB Jungle Dunk will be available beginning January 28 in two color options of royal blue/white and navy/black on nike.com/nikelab and at select NikeLab stores.

Where To Buy The Nike LeBron 14 Black Ice

We’re less than a week away from LeBron’s latest signature model arriving at retailers, and a whole lot has changed when compared to the past few Jason Petrie x LeBron James Nike Basketball models. First things first: the LeBron 14 will debut in the “Black Ice” colorway on January 28th, 2017 for $175 USD. Rumor has it that grade school sizes will also be available, but we’re still waiting on information regarding the price point for youth sizes. You can check out a full store list for where to buy the Nike LeBron 14 Black Ice below, and we’ll continue to update it as we get word from more stores regarding availability throughout the week.

The Nike LeBron 14 is in direct contrast with the past few LeBron signature models. The dependency on Hyperposite is no more, as the seamless slip-on upper utilizes a dual-zone composite mesh material with auxetic overlays for added support while maintaining a lightweight ride. The Hexagonal Zoom Air units return for the third straight year with a slightly overhauled look for maximum volume Zoom Air. This also marks the first signature LeBron to feature a strap since the LeBron 5, but obviously, his Nike Soldier series has had a field day with different strapped constructions over the past decade.

Be sure to check out more official detailed images of this weekend’s Nike LeBron 14 “Black Ice” release and stay tuned for more retail updates regarding where to buy the LeBron 14 Black Ice below. In the meantime, head over to our Release Dates page for an updated look at the latest and greatest offerings from Nike Basketball.

20 Years Later, The Nike Air Foamposite One Is Still Ahead Of The Curve

In 1997, everything about the Nike Air Foamposite One screamed future. 20 years later, it’s still screaming.

Nike

Eric Avar, the mind behind the Foamposite and Kobe Bryant’s partner in crime at Nike a few year later, had an interesting inspiration for the shoe – a beetle. Or to be more specific, the skeleton of a beetle. Usually when you hear about stories behind the design, it’s man-made stuff like cars, planes, etc. Nope, the Foams were inspired by a beetle. The shoe was the result of Avar being ahead of the curve.

via Complex

The actual making of the Foamposite forced Nike to look outside of the box. Because the material that was to be used on the shoe was unlike anything Nike had worked on before, it required a wholly different method than ever before, so they tapped car manufacturer Daewoo to help devise a method in making it a reality. You’ve no doubt heard the story of the $750,000 mold that was created just to build the Foams, but let that sink in for a second. Nike spent $750,000 – not including all the money burned on research and development – just to create something that was at the time yet to be proven to work. The process – which took two years to go from concept to reality – was not only out of this world, but it could have been out of reach if Nike hadn’t taken that gamble. To get to the future, you need to take some risks sometimes.

Nike

For such a revolutionary and highly experimental shoe, Nike needed an athlete who represented not where the game was but where it was going. So it made sense that they were going to have Scottie Pippen launch the Foams. That’s right, one of the great sneaker “what ifs” is who Foams should have gone to. According to legend, Avar wanted Pippen to wear the Foams but Penny wanted them for himself when he caught a peek of them in a design meeting. Penny had the foresight and Nike let him have it, breaking from his own signature shoe line to rock them.

Getty Images

Penny wasn’t the only the player of the future that would earn the distinction of debuting the Foams to the world. The 1997 Arizona Wildcats all received pairs of the Royal Blue Foams during their run to the National Championship, but Mike Bibby was the only star who actually put them to use on the court. At the time, many believed Bibby to be the next superstar point guard. So the shoe of the future was being worn by the point guard of the future. Makes sense, right?

The Shoe Game

It wasn’t always easy for the Foamposite, of course, as while it might have been futuristic, it was maybe too futuristic for many. With a premium price point and a look that nobody was feeling, there was a time when you could find them at Nike outlets in the middle of the 2000s. It would take a mix of nostalgia, Wale, hip-hop, and the DMV to bring the shoes back to the forefront. A new and futuristic colorway, the Eggplant, might have also helped matters too.

Nike

In 2012, the sneaker world was shaken up when graphics appeared on the Foamposite for the first time with the release of the Galaxy during NBA All-Star Weekend. It set the stage for the future of the Foams, as many more colorful takes on the shoe would follow. It was impossible to follow up the Galaxy, but Nike tried their damnedest to hope lightning would strike twice.

Now we see Foams of all kinds sit in stores once again, much like we did before it’s late 2000s revival. This time around, they’re sitting because sneakerheads have shifted in favor of sneakers with minimalist design and maximum comfort, whether it be adidas NMDs, Nike Lunarcharges or even New Balance 247s. But don’t count the Foams out as we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Royal colorway this past weekend. Between the expected rollout of new Foams in 2017 and kids once again looking for what’s new and fresh, we could be at the cusp of the cycle starting once again for the shoe. And if not, then 20 years as the sneaker of the future is not a bad title to have, right?

NikeLab And Jun Takashi Combine The Dunk, Jungle Boot, And Air Huarache

UNDERCOVER‘s Jun Takahashi has been one of Japan’s most influential designers for his ability to not only buck trends, but to create them through contemporary simplicity and a knack for head-turning aesthetics. You’ve seen this countless times with the ongoing Nike Gyakusou running collections, an homage to Jun’s love and daily ritual of running recontextualized as fashionable apparel. Now Jun’s latest creation combines three seemingly unconnected Nike offerings in the Nike Dunk, Nike Jungle Boot, and Nike Air Huarache for the UNDERCOVER Nike Jungle Dunk, available in two colorways on January 28th from NikeLab locations.

Jun set out to create a winterized boot that was fashionable enough to be considered streetwear ready while harkening back to some of Nike’s most iconic designs in the areas of basketball, running, and skateboarding. While the UNDERCOVER Nike Jungle Dunk debuted at international retailers this past weekend, an official launch will hit NikeLab locations and online at nike.com/nikelab this Saturday. The unmistakably UNDERCOVER design offers up a winter-ready construction thanks to an SFB boot outsole found on Nike’s restructured ACG category while the Air Huarache’s heel cage features ‘Chaos’ and ‘Balance’ in an homage to finding your center in the hectic nature of the modern-day metropolis. While the silhouette is definitely a Nike Dunk in origin, the sidewall utilizes a bold triangular pattern featured in past NikeLab Gyakusou collections.

Two colorways range from a Black/Loyal Blue to a simple White/Game Royal. Be sure to check out more of the latest UNDERCOVER Nike Jungle Dunk creation below and know that you can buy your pair from select retailers and NikeLab stores on January 28th. For more of the latest weekend offerings, be sure to head over to our Release Dates page.
