Buy, Pass, Wait: Air Jordan 12 The Master, Wood Wood x adidas Ultra Boost, Nike Kobe 11 Eulogy
Welcome back to another edition of Buy, Pass, Wait, where the Kicks On Fire staff takes a look at the weekend’s (including today’s) big releases and let the audience know if we think it’s worth a purchase, a pass or maybe a buy at a later time when the price drops. This weekend will give us our first Air Jordan 12 retro of the year, an adidas Ultra Boost that is finally making its way stateside, a Nike Kobe 11 that says goodbye in a kinda weird way and much more.
Juan Martinez, Editor-In-Chief: (GOT ‘EM) Second favorite Air Jordan model in an almost murdered out colorway. You can’t get away with making those nursing shoe jokes with these I’ll tell you that much and also, the packaging theme of taking it back to 1997 was a nice touch. Just make them true to size though, geez…
Andres Carrillo, News: (PASS) As nice as this Air Jordan 12 is I already have my sights set on the French Blue and Flu Game colorways releasing later this year so I’m gonna have to make the tough decision to pass on these.
Juan Carrillo, News: (BUY) Surprisingly, I like the tonal look on the shoe. The allblack with a little bit of gold looks really clean on the 12s. I don’t own any 12s, but I’d be willing to change that once these drop.
Renz Ofiaza, News: (BUY) In general, I’m a big fan of the silhouette. In this colorway, the versatility is a given and definitely appealing to the masses.
EIC Juan: (PASS) With all of the colorful Ultra Boosts that are starting to show themselves lately, this seems bland in comparison. Also, I already have a two pairs of “basic” Ultra Boosts so I’m just waiting for the right multicolor pair to cop at the moment.
Andres: (PASS) I like how adidas continues to think outside the box with the Ultra Boost. The women’s pair is the more interesting of the two thanks to the removal of the “cage” and addition of a midfoot strap. Unfortunately neither pair really grasps my attention.
News Juan: (PASS) It’s a nice collaboration, but it’s nothing I’d jump over hoops for. Honestly, I’d be fine with picking up a regular all-black pair instead of these. I feel like this collaboration offers nothing out of the ordinary.
Renz: (BUY) Both pairs have their own positives but I’m more inclined to the men’s version obviously. Just the simplicity of the “caged” system and the timeless colorway is a winner.
EIC Juan: (BUY) One of my all-time favorite Kobes is the Nike Kobe 8 Purple Platinum and this is a close approximation of that on the Kobe 11. The 8:24 on the heel is a great aesthetic choice although I can’t deal with the really morbid nickname Nike chose for these. Great kicks, terrible nickname.
Andres: (BUY) If you’ve been a Kobe Bryant since his early Lakers days with Shaq when they won the threepeat, then this is the colorway of the Kobe 11 that YOU NEED to buy. It celebrates the amazing 20 year career of the Black Mamba and everything that he’s done while wearing the purple and gold.
News Juan: (PASS) This colorway is too closely connected to the Lakers team colors. While I do have respect for Kobe, I would not go to the extent of buying a pair of his shoes in his team’s colorway. I’d much rather wait for a more neutral colorway.
Renz: (WAIT) I’ve shared before that I admire the silhouette’s design. The dominant purple finish isn’t my cup of tea, but the significance of the pair is suitably for die-hard Kobe fans.
EIC Juan: (BUY) I’ll never own the original Air Max 1 Safari so this is not a bad alternative. Now whether or not Nike should have even put this together? See below for my thoughts on that…
Andres: (PASS) While this is one of the nicest Air Max 1 collaborations ever, I think Nike made a mistake by not re-releasing the original. They tinkered a bit with this 2016 version and changed some materials and even colors. Don’t get me wrong though, they’re probably still gonna sell out almost instantly.
News Juan: (BUY) I wasn’t into sneakers as much as I am today when the OG Atmos x Nike Air Max 1 originally release. To have something similar to the original release is alright with me. If I get the chance to pick up a pair, I definitely would.
Renz: (PASS) Back when it originally released in 2003, it was pretty hot, but thirteen years later, I’m kind of over that Safari print detail. It’s still a solid drop even though it’s slightly different but nonetheless, fans should be excited. I might consider purchasing if the price drops.
Should Nike Bring Back Classics Like The Atmos x Air Max 1 In “Remixed” Form Or Like The Original?
EIC Juan: I’m all for retros of classic Air Max and Nike SB Dunks from the past. I’m not a fan of penalizing those who had misfortune of being born later missing out on kicks like these. However, these kicks strike a different chord than OG Air Jordans in that their quirkiness should remain just that; so the original designs need to stay in the past and remixes need to be different enough so that those who had them when they first came out can rest easy knowing what they have is still the “best” or at least “first”. Meanwhile, Nike needs to also concentrate on making today’s kicks the new classics so that this generation has something to brag about too.
Andres: Adding to what I already said, I think Nike should have left this Atmos x Nike Air Max 1 untouched and should have released it in its original form. I’m not sure what the thought process was behind “remixing” a classic shoe that lots of people have been waiting a long time to get their hands on.
News Juan: I think Nike should bring back the original classics. Many of us struck out when the shoe originally released or weren’t even into sneaker when they released. It’d be nice to have another chance to pick up a classic retro. They do it with Jordans all the time, and you know how well that’s been going, sort of.
Renz: Yeah, more for the original form. It’s nice to see old pairs being revived after a decade or more in the vault. I’m not into Nike SB Dunks as much as I was years ago, but I’m still waiting for a retro of the Sea Crystals. Already 12 years.

Top 10 Stories Of The Week From The Kicks On Fire Instagram
Welcome back to another week where we highlight the Top 10 Stories Of The Week From The Kicks On Fire Instagram. This feature focuses on the top/most read stories of the week as chosen by you, our readers/supporters. The way it works is we post a picture about current sneaker news or an upcoming release on our Instagram account and many times we advise you to ?click the link in our bio.? The main goal for that is so we can direct you to a certain piece of news on the site that we feel is important or breaking. It?s a quick way for us to connect you to the site in the click (or touch) of a button.
The last few weeks were dominated by Kanye West and adidas as we were getting ready for the restock of the adidas Yeezy Boost 350 Pirate Black. But this week there was no adidas Yeezy news in sight so Nike and Jordan Brand took all of the attention in a BIG way. There was leaked news of a Nike Kobe Fade To Black Pack and Jordan Brand took center stage as we’ll be seeing the return of some of their most popular shoes of all time. Yup, I’m talking about the Space Jam 11s and the True Blue 3s (with Nike Air branding). There was also a couple of surprises from some of the “smaller” brands that definitely deserve the attention and recognition. Let’s take a look at this week’s top 10 stories.
The Air Jordan 16 Will Retro For The First Time Ever
It was announced this week that Jordan Brand has some BIG plans for the holidays as we’ll see the release of the Air Jordan 3 True Blue with Nike Air branding on the heel as well as the Air Jordan 11 Space Jam. But also announced this week was that the Air Jordan 16 Midnight Navy will also be getting the retro treatment for the first time ever. Originally released back in 2001, the Air Jordan 16 will be making an appearance 15 years later in the Midnight Navy colorway that you see above. How many people are actually excited about this release though?
Jordan Brand Pays Homage To Chicago With This Air Jordan 10
This year we’ll be seeing another Air Jordan 10 City Pack with four brand new cities that will be highlighted by Jordan Brand. This is the Chicago Flag colorway from the collection that draws inspiration from the actual flag of the city of Chicago. It’s natural that most of the people who like this pair will be the ones who have some kind of connection to the Windy City because I doubt many like the combination of Bright Crimson and University Blue. Yikes!
The Kobe 11 Eulogy Is a Must-Have For Any and All Kobe Fans
By now we’ve all accepted the fact that Kobe will be walking away from the game after 20 years of greatness, well more like 17 years. This Eulogy colorway is the perfect homage to Kobe’s career that was spent with one single team (a rarity these days), the Los Angeles Lakers. The best part about this shoe has to be 8 and 24 on the heel. It’s as if Nike is retiring both of his numbers. A MUST-HAVE for Kobe fans.
Juan’s Favorite Nike/Air Jordan Posters
In honor of the Air Jordan 12 The Master that releases tomorrow which draws inspiration from an Air Jordan poster from the 90’s, our Editor In Chief decided to pick out his 10 favorite Air Jordan posters ever which featured some really classic pictures such as the “Playground” poster and of course the “Wings” poster. What’s your favorite Air Jordan poster?
The Gel Lyte Evo Gets Dressed Up In A Mint Colorway
The more that people see the Gel Lyte Evo the more that people like it. It’s probably because of its close similarity to the Asics Gel Lyte 3 which it was derived from and also because of its sleek and simple design. This new Mint colorway is perfect for that Easter get-together and really any sunny Spring/Summer day. It’s hard to dislike a shoe this clean.
Concepts Gives The Diadora N9000 The Tuxedo Look
Concepts has linked up with Italian based Diadora to create a retro-inspired colorway of the popular N9000 silhouette. This shoe draws inspiration from 1950s fashion, specifically tailored tuxedos, pocket squares and top hats. The sneaker is nice, but the best part about this release has to be the box that the shoes come in. Dope presentation by Concepts and Diadora.
The Kobe 11 Goes To College
Four different colleges were presented with their own PE colorways of the Nike Kobe 11 this week. Oregon, Michigan State, Kentucky and Duke now have their own Kobe 11 that features a gradient Flyknit upper using the school’s colors along with their logo on the insole. I have a feeling that if Nike released the Kentucky or Duke colorways they would be a hit.
Nike Air Will Return On The Air Jordan 3 True Blue
One of two huge news bombs that were dropped this week was that the Air Jordan 3 True Blue would be returning this year. After being put in the “vault” for an indefinite amount of time, Jordan Brand will wait less than two years to bring back the fan-favorite silhouette. Not only is the Air Jordan 3 returning, but it’s doing so in an OG colorway AND with Nike Air branding. Black Friday is gonna be LIT!
Surprisingly the most talked about piece of news this week wasn’t the Air Jordan 3 True Blue or even the Space Jam 11s but rather the speculation of a Nike Kobe Fade To Black Pack/Collection. There’s a very strong indication that Nike will be saying goodbye to Kobe Bryant in style as they may be releasing his entire Nike Kobe signature lineage beginning with the Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 and ending with the newest Kobe 11. The ?Fade To Black? collection is rumored to start of with all-white colorways and will evolve in color and ultimately conclude with an all-black Kobe 11. Are you excited about this potential mega pack?
Jordan Brand Brings An Air Jordan 5 Low From A Decade Ago
A decade ago Jordan Brand unleashed the low-top Air Jordan 5 to the world, but oddly enough, they were released in women’s sizes. Perhaps the brand didn’t think that men would find the lower-profile AJ5 appealing, but 2016 sang a different tune as several colorways of the Air Jordan 5 Low have already released and are slated to hit stores soon. This March 26th, one of those decade-old colorways is returning as well; drawing comparisons to the Air Jordan 5 “Metallic Silver” from 2000 (and later 2015), this low-top version is built for girls only, but should be available in extended sizes. Get a view at multiple angles below and stay tuned for the offiical release.
Reebok Instapump Fury Road Moon Rock Just Landed In Stores
The Reebok Instapump Fury Road goes from the streets all the way to the moon for a lunar landing on this new “Moon Rock” colorway. The bold graphic edition of the Fury Road features the cratered lunar surface across the upper with a dark blue to light purple transition from toe to heel. The result is without a doubt one of the best editions of the resurrected Fury Road yet. So cool, you might even say they’re out of this world. Find them landing now at select Reebok Classic suppliers like Sneaker Politics.
Scheduled to release in the month of May is the Chicago colorway of the Air Jordan 10 from Jordan Brand’s upcoming City Pack.
Today we have new images to show you of the Air Jordan 10 Chicago Flag that happens to be inspired by the flag of Chicago. White leather covers the majority of the upper with University Blue and Bright Crimson detailing landing on the laces, tongue, eyestay, outsole, heel tab and branding. A black outsole wraps things up along with ?CHI? written by the ankle in Bright Crimson and Black.
So far we’ve only gotten a look at the Chicago and NYC pairs, which one do you like better from the two? Let us know down below and be sure to check out our Air Jordan 10 Chicago Flag launch page for the latest up-to-the-minute updates.
This Burgundy Colorway Of The PUMA Suede Classic Is Flawless
PUMA constantly gets overlooked by many people. Whether it’s their runners like the Blaze of Glory or R698 or classic lifestyle silhouettes like the Suede Classic, they don’t get the attention that they deserve.
One of the newest styles and colorways that PUMA has created is this Cabernet Red (burgundy) colorway of the legendary PUMA Suede Classic. Just as the name states, the entire upper of this shoe is dressed in a burgundy suede with contrasting white detailing on the branding stripe, inner liner and rubber midsole/outsole. Additional PUMA branding in gold has also been added on the side panels for that classic look.
Hit up your local PUMA retailers now for availability and give us your take on this colorway down in the comments section. Retail price has been set at $70.
Burgundy shoes ALWAYS catch my attention no matter the brand or silhouette. The PUMA Suede Classic is on of those silhouettes that will never go out of style and this colorway can be matched up easily with practically anything.

Gore Tex Covers This Asics Gel Lyte 5 For The Last Few Weeks Of Winter
Arriving this weekend exclusively at Boston-based retailer Concepts is this Gore Tex version of the Asics Gel Lyte 5.
Dubbed the Ice colorway, this Asics Gel Lyte 5 has been beefed up for the last few remaining weeks of Winter thanks to the use of Asics’ Gore Tex technology. A premium pigskin nubuck and durable ripstop nylon dominate the upper in grey and black while red and blue accents appear on the inner liner, branding stripes, outsole and branding work as a contrast.
Here’s what Young had to say about his decision to walk away from Nike (and other brands) and choose adidas.
?Nike is really only three people. Kobe, Durant and LeBron,? he explained. ?I like the concept of how adidas adds everybody in their shoe commercial. The way adidas is going and the waves they?ve got, I was getting on board.?
We can’t help but assume that Kanye West played a big part of Young’s decision to join adidas and according to him he was influenced by Yeezy.
?That helped adidas out a trillion times,? Young laughed. ?And of course I asked for the whole Kanye collection. Bring me everything.?
Do you think that Nick Young made the right decision to leave Nike and join adidas? I mean it’s not like he’s ever gonna get a signature shoe with adidas either, right? What would you have done?
Don Forget The Air Jordan 4 Dunk From Above Releases Next Month
The month of February just brought us the Air Jordan 4 OG 89 White Cement which won’t be the only Air Jordan 4 releasing in 2016. Scheduled to release next month is a brand new colorway of the Air jordan 4 with this Dunk From Above colorway.
Jordan Brand’s Dunk From Above Collection got underway last week as we saw the release of the Air Jordan 5 Low Dunk From Above that is still sitting on shelves a week later. It may or may not be a different story with this Air Jordan 4 due to the popularity of the silhouette. The Air Jordan 4 Dunk From Above comes dressed in a Midnight Navy leather all over the upper with Varsity Maize detailing on the eyelets, inner liner and the inside of the tongue. We can also see White accents on the midsole and side panel and tongue mesh netting while a gum outsole holds everything down.
Will you be picking up a pair come March 19th for $190. Let us know if you are down in the comments and check in with our Air Jordan 4 Dunk From Above launch page for the latest images, videos and other important updates.
This is my favorite shoe from the Dunk From Above Collection but I don?t know if I like it enough to pull the trigger and cop a pair. Maybe if I?m able to see them in person I?ll be able to make my decision.

The Nike Air Tech Challenge 4 Will Finally Get The Retro Treatment
Andre Agassi’s Nike Air Tech Challenge 4 made its initial release way back in 1992. Quick math tells me that that’s around 24 years ago. That’s how long it took for Nike to give this Agassi shoe the retro treatment. Returning in a brand new colorway, let’s take a closer look at the shoe.
The shoe starts off with an off-white leather upper heavily contrasted by the brown suede hits placed all over the upper. Adding some soft and subtle hits to the shoe are the coral accents placed on the heel and outsole of the shoe. No word yet on when these will drop, but expect them to do so within the next few months. Are you happy to see this shoe make a comeback? Let us know in the comments below.
Just when you thought you’ve seen it all in sneakers, we come across something like this. What you see above is a custom pair of Donald Trump Converse Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers. No need to read it over, you read it right the first time.
The shoe are said to be worn by political consultant Frank Luntz. The custom sneaker features an actual image of Donald Trump along with the infamous quote “Make America Great Again” placed on the side panels of the denim constructed upper. Although he wears the shoes proudly, it doesn’t seem like it appears to be an endorsement since he stated that he wore the shoes so that he can be “the only one in America, other than his wife, who gets to walk on Donald Trump every day.” Take that as you may.
Would you rock these shoes? Let us know why or why not in the comments below.
